replacing the backseat with 2 12's

yea i got a 1995 z28 w/t-tops. I already got my amp.. JBL bp600.1. Now i need to figure out where to put sub(s). I cant fit a stealthbox, because i got BOSE stuff on the driver side, and spare and jack and misc tools on the passnager side. my other choice was millhouse box, or t-top box, both of which were $200+.

So after realizing that i have been using my backseat for storage this whole time, i thought why not get rid of it and put some subs.

My question is, has anyone put subs in the back seat before? can anyone tell me a good way to do it?

when i took one of the lower seats out, i realized theres a hole in there and its not a straight surface, and there is also a metal bracket for something, seems like a good ground place. maybe i can bolt a board up to that and bolt a sub box up to it.

im thinking of having 2 12's in separate 12" sealed boxes on each side of the driveshaft hump. what do you think of this. also i want to mount the subs upside down, since i will most likely get audiobahns i thought the chrome would look nice

yea i realize its kind of ghetto.

It would be so much less trouble (and you would get better sounding bass, esp. with Audiobahns) if you put the subs in the trunk. You would have to take out the rear seat and essentially make a box that stretched across the entire back seat area, which would be way more than $200. I had two 12" JLs in my trunk and they pounded, even on a convertable.

That being said, I'm working with an expert installer right now from Sound Advice on building a system for my rear seat . I'm gonna use two Infinity Perfect VQ 10s in sepearately sealed enclosures, with a plexiglass amp rack taking up where the back of the seat used to be (I have two Xtant X603s and an Ultimate DTS800-2). It's costing me about 500 for the box and amp rack, plus another 200 for the install, and I'm getting hooked up b/c I'm helping with the labor.

But if you want to, you could buy two sealed boxes for like $50, and probably build something to hold the system in place for like another $50 (using fiberboard or something), and then cover it with vinyl or something so it doesn't look ghetto (probably another $50), and then you would have saved $50.

I'm not trying ot talk you out of it, but just saying that it's gonna be a lot of work to make it look right in the back seat, when you could just buy a pre-made box with wire terminals on it, drop it in, plug in four wires and call it a day.

Whatever you do, good luck with that system, bro.
Peace.

Is the bottom of that box glassed to the contour of the bottom, or what. I have 2 Jl10s I want to put there, but there isn't one straight surface underneath the seats, and that much fiberglass will be pretty pricey. I am not willing to give up my t-top storage for a box back there, so now I got a prefab box sitting on the rear deck. It sounds good, but it's an eyesore, and I keep tossing the box around during "spirited driving". Anyone else have pictures of rear seat boxes?

No, the box is made out of 3/4" MDF. The bottom is attached to the front a couple of inches up from the bottom edge and slants down into the contours under the seat. There are basically two boxes behind the front face. I did fiberglass all of the inside corners of each box to seal things up good and tight.
