Help, CD player working intermittently

I installed a Pioneer Premier deck in my '95 Z28 under a year ago. This morning it started this thing where if I raise it over the first five notches of volume (very quiet), it plays for 3 second spurts, the sound stops, then plays 3 more seconds. It does this with the radio as well as CDs. The graphic display animation on the faceplate work the whole time. I'm going to tear it apart today, any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thanks.

Hey! It may not be what you're wanting to hear, but if you got it under a year ago and if the warranty lasts for a year, get it back to the store. I had a similar problem with a Kenwood CD player that I bought. I got the cheapest one just to have some form of music when I was driving a 72 LTD, and I think that (possibly due to the cheapness of it) that I somehow damaged the amp. Do you use the amp built into the CD Player to power the speakers? Do you usually have it cranked? I think that running the amp at max power for extended durations might damage it. The old LTD is garaged and I never got it looked at so I'm not sure what can be done, but I *think* it's an amplifier problem. Good luck to you!

The Premier models have a 2 year warranty. Don't mess with it. Take it to the authorized repair facility or check with the people who installed it. Let Pioneer pay for the repair or replacement.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I don't think I can take it back to a store, as I didn't buy it. It was brand new, but I bought it from a board member about a year ago. I have a separate amp that powers the speakers; I'll have to check that out.
