Good speakers...
Good speakers...
I have some blown out speakers on my car. I have the 10 speaker monsoon system and would like to replace with some good speakers. I am pretty sure I don't have an amp or what not. I would like the speakers to cost about 900-1100 for the speakers together. I'm not sure on the sizes, or the good brands. I'm not going to get subs and all that crap, I'm not into that. Just good speakers to replace my stock ones, and a new head unit. Any help? I have a 1997 Formula.
Re: Good speakers...
Yes you do have an amp
It a monsoon amp and its a piece of ****..
It works fine with the stock speakers, but you just don’t want to use it on your aftermarket setup....
So you will need:
-head unit
-amplifier
-2 sets of 6.5" speakers (one set on the front and one on the back)
-amp. wire kit
O wouldn’t worry about hatch speakers, you won’t hear them anyway, and the $$ you save you can put on to better front speakers (components maybe)...
What I did is
-Alpine 7998 head unit (the best Alpine ever)
-5 channel Orion amplifier (very good quality, great sound)
-MB quart components on the front
-MB quart 2-way speakers on the passenger compartment
-Adire Koda 10" sub in custom stealth box...
The system sounds amazing...You can adjust all aspects of the sound using head unit, and also amp gives you other possibilities. I am not audiophile, but I wanted something really really good...The whole installation took me 2 hours, and it was really easy. All wires are hidden under the carpet, and the whole system looks clean!! After I did the speakers, I wanted to upgrade the bass setup. I have components on the front, "midbass" o the back and now I needed some thumb in the trunk. I am not into big bass at all, but my the sound created by the MB quarts wasn’t completed. So I went with one of the best Subs you can buy. Adire Koda gives you the best quality you can get. The bass is really clean, and deep. No rattling, or anything like on those rided-out civics. Just deep clean bass...I setup the subwoofer on only 1/4 maximum power, so it won’t disturb the sound from MB quarts, and works just as addition to them...
Now I am preparing my car for complete soundproofing (100sq. feet of Fatmatt, and 10 cans of speayable soundproofing compound)

Re: Good speakers...
Thanks a ton man, that really helped out a lot. My moms friends son is really into car audio and he could def. give me a hand on these. What sizes are the door speakers? My passenger side doesn't work, and is there a particular type/size amp to get?
So I'll need 4 6.5 speakers? What size are the door speakers? Man I don't even remember what all of my speakers locations are! I'll probably be getting Infiniti speakers, they seem pretty good.

Re: Good speakers...
You can either but 6.5' or 6.75 they both will work. The size is the same in the front and in the back...
In the doors you have 4 speakers. Two 6.5" midbass and 2 tweeters. So the best thing you can do is replace them with some nice components. MB quart, Infinity Kappa. I did a lot of reading before I did my setup and one of teh best speakers in my price range ($100-150) were MB QUART DSE 216 components. They fit great in teh place od stock speakers. The rear speakers (near drives seats), are also 6.5" and here you can put some midbass speakers, or 2-3 way speakers. I went with MB Quart PCE164 midbass drivers, because they are just the best midbass speakers you can get for $150. They will complete the front components, so you will have nice overall sound (tweeters, midrange, midbass) that you are looking for.
I got all the speakers, head unit and amp from eBay…Just look there, and you will find everything you need…
Remember to get good 4 channel amp (if you won’t run subwoofer)!!! Don’t but a cheap ****, like Lazar, Pyramid or other knock offs. Amp is the mist important part of your setup!!!

Re: Good speakers...
Do yourself a favor and spend more on a higher quality component set for the front and trust me it will be more than enough sound. You aren't going to hear those rear speakers very much, if at all. Midbass in the rear locations isn't going to help you out. You will be missing the low end regardless of what midbass drive you stick in there, because you will not have a sub.
Re: Good speakers...
I have to say veto to this one. The rear speakers (passenger seats) are necessary to have good system (not only midbass, but any 2-3,midbass drivers)...I know, because I tested a lot of possibilities, and they are just a must.
I can agree that purchasing better front components is great idea, but with a low budget, as I had I couldn’t afford to...

Ps. the hatch speakers are waste of $$ so you can forget about those…

Those are the blown speakers "rear" and they are annoying the hell out of me!! Everytime I have the bass up AT ALL the crack and pop INSANELY. Those probably will be the first ones I replace. 6.5 correct?
Re: Good speakers...
Thats the thing. YOU tested it. It's what sounds good to YOUR ears. If they are blown, go ahead and replace them, but nothing more than some average 2 way speakers is what you need if ANYTHING.
I had 2-2way coaxial speakers in my front doors for the better part of a year (Boston Acoustic) and with a 12"sub I heard the music fine from the front doors. If they annoy the hell out of you, removed them
When you go to a concert, do the musicians play from behind you? It sounds much better with music in front of you, and I have ditched rear fill and will never look back. It has its places, larger vehicles, 5.1... But I prefer without it, and maybe you do too
