Need help with picking right speakers/subs for my 92

i think i've spent enough money on the car itself that i should upgrade my crappy audio system. i have the 6X9s in the c pillar and the crappy 2X4s (or whatever they are) in the dash. should i even bother with the dash's or what? i mean could i just get some kind of tweater/mid setup for the dash and then see if i could fab some door panel speakers? if i were to do door speakers what size would you recommend? i was thinking about infinity kappa's for the regular speakers but dunno about subs. i have an alpine deck that i think puts out 60 watts/channel but i'm not sure what would compliment that good. should i stick with alpine for the amps (one for subs and one for speakers) or go with a different brand. i can afford something fairly decent but not over-the-hill expensive.

so i guess my questions are:

1. what brand speakers?
2. what size door speaker to fab in?
3. what brand amp for speakers?
4. what brand subs?
5. 2-10's or 2-12s? or maybe 2-12s & a 10?
6. where can i get a box for my "trunk" and what should it be made of?
7. what brand amp for my subs?

i know its alot of newbish questions but help me out, i do consider peoples opinions on stuff very valuable in what works/doesn't or what sounds the best/doesn't.

Re: Need help with picking right speakers/subs for my 92

cruthfield says i have 4X6's in the front, should i bother with 4X6's or just go with 4" rounds?

and i guess there was an option to get 5 1/4" rounds in the door, is this a good size or should i try to fit bigger?

thankx guys

p.s.- what about axing the door speaker idea and just getting some kicker panel speakers? are they easy to damage being at your feet and all?

Well in your current situation your head unit should be usable. Suggested setup :: front: speakers 4x6 infinity kappa plate speakers Back: infinity kappa 6x9s. Lots of people will rag on this suggestion, but I would use Boss IQ amps to power the front and bact speakers.

Amp & Sub combos::
1: 3 Audiobahn 10s and a Boss RipD3 (Looks great performs good)
2: 2 MTX 9500s and 2 Hifonics Brutus amps (LOUD & Expensive)
3: 2 Adire audio Shivas JBL amplifier or Boss (Best bang for your buck)
4: 2 RE audio XXX 12s Tyrantula (If money is no object)

Just my suggestions... take them for what they are worth.

What kind of sound do like? Smoothe laid back, bright and in your face, neutral..?

Do you want sound quality, loud, or loud sound quality?

Budget?

Re: Need help with picking right speakers/subs for my 92

what are you a pirate?!?

j/k- my budget is pretty decent, i don't want to list a specific price cuz i'm always flexible. and i like quality over loud but i still want the loud to be there, just not interfering with quality.

so here's my next question, if i were to do 4X6 dash, 6X9 rear, and 5 1/4" round components in the kicker panel, could i run all on one amp and if so what would be a good compliment to the infinity kappa's?

and as far as subs and amps for the subs i'm still open for suggestions and opinions do count.

so for sound i guess its quality but still semi-loud.

If it's like the dash that was in my '85 Firebird SE it's easy. Remove the screws in the defroster vent and under the lip of the dash. Left it up and pull it out.

Have you heard Infinity Kappas? I personally can't stand them. Weak midbass and midrange, no good highs... Just poor quality IMO. If you're going with kick panels I would probably leave the Dash speakers out. Or possibly put the tweeter from a component set up in the dash and leave the mid in the kick.

For all of this stuff. Go to an audio store near you, even if it is Best buy or something like that, and just listen to some stuff. Hopefully you have a shop around with some more higher end equipment. Listen to as much as you can, so you can make the ultimate decision. Because after all, it doesn't matter what people suggest to you, it only matters what sounds good to you're ear.

With that being said, don't go somewhere and have them tell you Boss amps are the best you can get or something of that nature. Audio stores WILL try to feed you lines of BS.

so what would you recommend other than the infinity kappa's? on ikesound.com i can get the kicker panel speakers, 6X9s, and 4X6s for only like $400 shipped. for subs i'm looking at either JL 12W6s or resonant engineering SE12s. not sure bout amps yet.

I don't know if you are willing to buy off of ebay but there are some JBL 6x9's Model T-595. They are really nice, can produce some low bass you really wouldn't expect from a 6x9. Very impressive for what they are.

same seller, good feedback.

400 shipped for a pair of 4x6's and 6x9's is pretty steep.

Too bad you didn't have three of the D6 versions. They rock!

Old school technology too.
