Last night I rolled up in front of a movie theatre and double parked, just to run up and see what is being played. As I got out of my ride, 4 teenagers 15-17 were walking up and sweating my 18x9.5 Chrome M-sport ADR wheels. Well 3 of them were. When I was coming back down to my car one of them was saying that car is ugly a f%^#. Well I ain't gonna tolerate that type of disrespect to my car right in front of me. The other 3 loved the car but this one idiot had to out loud verbally express his dislike. I put him in his place. He didn't see me right behind him and I said My car is tight as f&*^, what you saying...you just hating. He was shocked to see me coming right back and replied with the dumbest comment I've heard and I could immediately realize that after what he said he was basing his opinion partially on mis information. He said "your car can't take a mustang"...OMG...yall know I was laughing at this point. Him and his boyz looked at me like why am I laughing I then told them "yo i spank mustangs all day everyday!!!...Please don't speak anymore ignorance...talk what you know about". He said "so how fast is your car?" I told him with a stock engine I'm getting 315 to the wheels...to the wheels. The new Mustang GT comes with 260 to the @ the engine not the wheels....I told him a freaking 93 V8 Camaro has 265. He was like " for real" and his boyz were laughing at him. I then said @ the engine I have about 360, but you loose horsepower and it transfers through the transmission down to the wheels so this is why I have 315rwhp and that is the horsepower that matter. I then replied with the cobra can take me and that is b/c of the super charger. I said let me put a charger in my ride and I'm at 500 horses!!! Igorant mustang owners try me all the time and I just be showing them my taillights!! I believe this is the reason the mustang did so well. A lot of ignorant kids out there rushing to get the mustang thinking they are like top of line not realizing mustangs are just food for camaros cuz we eat they azzes up. Anyway his boyz loved the ride and I know now they have even more respect for Camaros.

 

i think it sells more due to female buyers buying v6 models which is a majority of mustang sales.

 

Before some of you express how I sounded like some ghettofied idiot in my post. Keep in my I just reacted ghetto, b/c of how this guy was sounding. I wrote how it the actual discussion took place. And don't start on the "If I had this argument" I through in there about the 03 Cobra. I was in the heat of the moment and the discussion was not centered around "ls1 vs Cobra".

Well, most 15-17 year olds don't buy new cars....

But I get the point... and a lot of that, IMO, falls back on poor/insufficient marketing of the F-Body.

I 100% agree, This is also where halo cars work. Many will say now that the Mustang is faster then the Camaro because the Supercharged Cobra is faster, yet every other V8 mustang is slower than an LS1.

 

Ford sells a lot of Mustangs because Ford Wants to sell a lot of Mustangs and because it designs and markets the car accordingly.

 

they sell mustangs because they have a conservative non intimidating look.they also have better visibility and are easier to get in and out of.these things mean nothing to me but they do to most buyers.saying GM would make a car that they didnt want to sell makes no sense and would be a stupid business decision.


what most likely happened was sales were well under what was projected and they decided not to put anymore money into them and let them die.

 

Actually, When i purchased my car i knew camaro's had a higher HP output, but ive known alot of people with camaros and alot (4 out of 6) are having major problems with their rides. Those teenagers obviously didint know what they were talking about, they were basing thier opinion on looks, in which the mustang clearly wins. Dont forget that there is a bigger aftermarket for the stang, people love teeeking thier rides and love to go forced, something that isnt very safe on a camaro. Plus there's just something about owning the true american pony car.

Camaro died because it will make a bigger impact on the automotive commutity if it died and came back, rather than just come redeisigned in 03. I hope it does come back, that way it, the new stang, gto and possibly a charger can send these fart can imports back home. I have a hard time beleiving GM is going to let camaro go, very hard time.

 

mustangs arent winning any quality awards and female buyers with v6s most likely arent interested in aftermarket performance parts.i could be wrong though. i think a mustang looks like any other car on the road.Cobras and v6s also look similar to each other unless you look at them closely.

 

The price has always be low and even if the Mustang had 100 hp engine, they still sound mean.

 

ls1 fbodies couldve been purchased for low 20s so that wasnt much of a factor.they appeal to women who could care less how fast they are.i guess they think theyre cute.maybe they are.

 

V6 sales dont ownly appeal to women, males like them too. And ask anyone including women that own mustangs if they want to modify it, Mustang V6 sales Vs Camaro V6 sales, mustang wins, looks looks looks, people in this section love the looks, if most people agree that the camaro needs improvement with it's looks and that mustang looks "like any other car on the road", where would that leave the camaro?GM themselves didint have faith in LS1, thats a big thing to a propective buyer.

Obviosuly theres something about the mustang, thats why "it" is still here.

 

Could you please provide Mustang sales data broken down by gender and engine option? I'd also like to see the same F-body data.

yea,no faith in ls1s.GM only puts ls1 derived motors in their trucks,vettes,and the soon to arrive GTO.i guess that theory is incorrect.


most stangs sold are to females.most are v6 versions.most arent interested in modding the car.


when my car is going down the road theres no mistaking whats coming.when i see a mustang i dont know what model it is.its a plain looking car thats purchased mostly by women.THATS why its still around.
