To me it just looks like everyone is quick to slap "retro" on anything. In the case of the Mustang, 90% of the "retro" cues were present on the preceeding model.

The reason so many people like it is not because it's retro - it's because it's a good looking car.

That post was 100% opinion.

IMO of course.

They had a good chassis with a strong engine, but they went the way of retro with the design, which IMO was the wrong thing to do. Its going to become an enthusiasts car. The enthusisast likes the older muscle cars looks and as we see, they want retro cars. Look at the GTO die hards talking about the GTO.

Did I miss something? Last I knew we don't 'know' what the 5th gen will look like for certain.

Secondly with all of the clues given by some, it will look retro. So the origional post seems inaccurate.

well, it seems as if someone has seen this car, and GunionM says it will not be retro, but the more and more designs I see that are based off this info, the more and more I see retro cues, especialy in the nose.
And to the original poster's title, he talks as if GM has already made the Camaro, and wants to know why the Camaro doesnt look retro.

Yeah I saw that thread, with all of the 'facts' listed out. I also saw the drawings people made off of this. Most of them looked like a first gen front with a 2nd gen rear. Still the final looks are purely speculative by the drawer, who knows what it will really look like. Retro or not

Aren't most car sales down??? Also, this car has been out for how long without a revision? Any car will get stale after a while, however, they are still selling quite a few Beetles. Not bad for a niche vehicle.

LOL, I gave up a long time ago. Some people just refuse to see the body/roof lines from the SN95 and S197 Mustangs. They have their opinion and I have mine

Your still clinging to the fact that the car is not retro because the roof line loosly resmebles the previous generation.

LOL, it's not loosely. Silouette comparisons show it being near exactly the same. It's not just the roof line. Go read the other posts I made in the other thread. I gave numerous examples for comparison...

Bottom line...IMO, this car is not retro. It has very strong heritage cues from the 60-73 Mustangs AND several less than strong, but obvious cues from 89-04 Mustangs. It even has a couple from the Lincoln LS and F-150. Regardless, some people just can't accept that. They're entitled to their opinion.

Yup. Retro sales are always the least consistent.

It seems that the people who say they like the new M*stang and retro are doing anything possible to convince everyone that it's not retro. You know what that says to me, that they don't wanna drive something labled retro.

I think the fact that the designer, Mr. Mays, used to call it retro, but now gets upset and corrects people by saying they call it "old school" is kind of telling that retro-styling, in general, is getting a black eye.
