Ford took the new mustang and made it look like the fast back. Why didn't chevy take the camaro and make it like the 1st gen. Alot of sales that way. No they have to let Ford do it. ARGHGGH

Mustang will and the camaro would too. I don't like doing search. I like hearing things in the present not the past.

The "retro doesn't sell well" topic has been beat to death. The PT Cruiser is really the only retro vehicle being sold today and it sells well.

The MINI is not retro. It's a restyle of the older version. A continuation (if that's a word) of the older version. It's the same for the Beetle. Both of which are also selling well. The Prowler was a limited run. As far as I know it wasn't going to be restyled or updated in anyway. The Thunderbird was a niche vehicle. It only came in two colors every year and was the 3rd best selling convertible in America while it was being produced. The fact that they're stickered at $42,000 and were #3 amazes me. Fact is, no retro vehicle has undergone a major restyle.

Without trying to restart the whole "retro" arguement, the Mustang is fairly modern with heavy heritage cues. Others see it as being very retro, power to them. They have their opinion and I have mine.

How do you 'restyle' retro?

I guess it could go something like this:

5th gen = 1st gen

6th gen = 2nd gen

7th gen = 3rd gen

8th gen = 4th gen

Is that how it works??

In theory, I already have an 8th Gen.

According to J Mays, the 2005 Mustang isn't retro, its "old school."

Idiotic statement as usual. It's retro.

LOL, I was gonna post almost the same thing. It's true though, they'll all just have to learn.

So here's my question...

If you'd NEVER seen a 1960's Mustang, and had only seen 1994 and newer Mustangs, you'd probably still recognize the 2005 as another Mustang... which brings the question:

Is the SN95 also retro? If not, then how could I reconize the new car as a Mustang?

I think that the 05 looks almost nothing like the 2 or 3 previous styles. It has cues taken admittedly and purposely from the 60's cars, I don't know how this can be argued.

thank you. I dont know how people can say its not retro or it doesnt take cues from the 60's?
Its very 100% retro.
And PT cruser sales have dipped a lot since introduciton. Only adding different lines.
Mini is between retro and evolution. Since there is only really 1 distinct Mini cooper, you cant really say its retro I guess. Same with the Beetle.

and werm, if you eleminate the basis for what the new mustang is desinged off of, then no, its not retro anymore. The reason so many people like the new stang is because its retro. As with all retro design, they get huge praise but soon the hype will die down and it wont be much then another car on the road.
