Of course, these people could be the same that didn't know the Camaro and Firebird were still in production past '92.

1) Engines are rapidly reaching or exceeding the limitations of FWD;
2) The OEMs have spent a lot of time convincing folks that RWD cars are deathtraps while in the process of heavily pushing FWD platforms;
3) It's relatively easy to convert a FWD platform with a transverse engine to AWD, compared to developing a fresh RWD platform.
the only reason i think that the import scene is going to die out in not too long is because they have tried to beat us, and failed. miserably failed time after time after time.
sure, there are a select few that ACTUALLY know what the hell they are doing, but most pop-rivet some side moldings and front fascia to their car and add a fart can = fast?
i just feel like most of them are learning the role of econoboxes, several of them at my school have been converted to American power after a run in or two with me and my Fbody friends.

Every automotive trend has flourished because of afew factors.
-Easily attainable. They must be cheap enough new and good enough to buy used.
-Easily modifiable. Cheap parts and a healthy aftermarket.
-Some sort of image...real or percieved.
For these reasons, import tuner 4 cylinders are going to be around for awhile......a long while.

High reving turbo-charged 4-bangers are great and affordable when new but they are often plagued with problems since Turbo charged vehicles usually have poor reliability since they were often abused and driven very hard.
While agree that 4-bangers will dominate the low-end performance for new vehicles I think larger displacement V8's will be the cars sought after in the used market since V8 are lower reving and tend to have better reliability and are usually cheaper and easier fix then complicated and smaller 4cycl. These V8 cars when brand -new were often out the the price range for many kids but these same kids could afford to buy a used V8 sports car or luxury sedan.

Many who would want to jump on the V8 bandwagon will find other more plentiful and more affordable alternatives.

While some of those cars wouldnt be for the racers and more for the cruiser kids but Im sure many off those cars could be bought between $5,000- $10,000 over the next few years and especially since the used car market has become so depressed because of huge rebates and 0% financing on new cars.
As a V8's becomes more rare and more of a luxury item in new cars it might make the V8 engine seem almost legendary and might just the fact that a car had a V8 might make the demand for it high in the years to come.
