Virtually undisguised G6...and some tech bits too.

Malibu SS = NO STICK
I also heard, over a year ago, that G6 would have a six speed...but that was when it was going to be the Pontiac performance flagship.
Not sure what the plan is now.

IF this G6 gets AWD and 285 HP engine, that will be cool. New Mazda6, actually Mazdaspeed6, will have 280 HP and AWD, seems like they would be good competitors.
On the other hand, I am skeptical of 285HP. This is more than current GTP with its 240/260HP. Although I do hope this happens.

The GTP is still using the Series II 3.8, and the G6 will run the new 3.5 right? I don't follow the V6 engines at all, but it's my understanding GM is moving to the 3.5 as the motor of choice for V6 applications. Are they going to completely phase out the 3.8?
3.8 is a tough motor, takes pretty much anything you throw at it. Hope the 3.5 is just as good.

That was the plan, anyway.....
I am guessing the G6 will use the Gran Prix's 4T65-E to handle the power..I know the current Grand Am transmission has been holding GM back from giving ot more power?
The SC 3.5L will slowly replace the SC 3800. The 3.9L (a bigger 3.5L, not related to the 3800) will replace the N/A 3800 and make 235-240 HP. I think this is the engine you will be seeing in the Malibu SS, not the SC 3500. It is cheaper for GM and fits in with GM's current stratagy of making Pontiac's the fastest cars on their respective platforms. With the current Accord and Altima making 240 HP, GM would rather match them with the 3.9L Malibu and let the 285 HP G6 take on other competion.
I wonder if there will be a Supercharged 3.9L?

Sometimes, I wonder if the 3800 will ever die?
I know that the HV V6 is theoritically going to to replace it. And I know it's hard to justify two different pushrod V6 families.....and I know a 60* V6 has some inherent advantages over a 90* V6....but somehow, I feel that the 3800 will be around for awhile longer.
