Yeah, you're right. That's idiotic though. If the car was cool (which it looks like it will be) it would be cool regardless of the name. Well, I mean I can see if they had a lousy name but Grand Am is a really recognized name and it's been around for a long time.

Just wait until customers go into the dealers and ask where the new Grand Ams are. It's over there, the G6. G because the car used to be called Grand and 6 because it's a V6. Incredible.

I think they chose the name G6 because its an edgier, new name which is sportier and will attract more attention.

I think more poeple will probably be interested in checking out Pontiacs new never before seen G6 sports sedan than a redesigned Grand Am even if they were the exact same car.

Perception goes a long way in selling cars.

I'm pretty curious about how well the GXP version performs with that 285 hp, blown V6.

I know that before the sudden approval of the GTO, and the appearance of the Solstice....Pontiac was putting alot of focus into this car as it's performance flagship.

Speaking of that 285 horse V6....I've heard rumors that the upcomming Malibu SS will share that engine....but no manual trans though.

Yeah, both the GXP G6 and the Malibu SS need to have a manual. I hope that what you have heard is wrong and they will have an optional manual. That would be nice to have that 285 hp in the Malibu SS, I bet that will scoot pretty damn good..................new Mustang GT territory?

Unfortunately, no manual is a near certainty.

GTO's only option is a moonroof.

Yep, that sure sucks.

Looks like a great car, but I still hate the name change. So the upper-end model will be called a G6 GXP? That sounds stupid, although I'll be able to forgive them if it performs as well as it looks. If indeed it does get all 285 HP (we know how these things go), it should be extremely competitive (could it actually run 13s?).

It's not exactly an "option" but I believe the 6 speed is extra-cost also - with the auto being standard.

You know, that 285 hp HV V6 is the same engine family as the V6 alot of speculate will be in the Camaro.

What do you think of Camaro getting the blown 285 horse version as an option?

I think it's a great idea, but what will the base model have as hp? Maybe 220 or so from the n/a 3.5? Will that be enough? I guess it all depends on what the Mustang does.

I thought the rumor was that the higher end models would be getting a 6-speed manual.

I think he's referring to the Malibu not having a stick, rather than the G6.

A GM rep told me that the G6 will have a 6 speed available, without question. Logic dictates Malibu SS will get it too...but we know all about GM logic, don't we??

G6 is NOT going to be the name for the car. Remember,G8 was the concept GP's name. I am 99.9% positive the car is not going to be called the G6. Last I knew, a name had not even been selected yet, but Grand Am was out...

Dumb, dumb move

It's been confirmed that G6 WILL be the name of the Grand Am replacement.
