There are two things that I feel GM MUST fix for the 5th gen
1. As been stated many times before are the blindspots, but more specifically the B-pillar blindspots. Considering how wide they are and the positioning of them it can really make driving a little too dangerous. For me, latley they are just getting more and more obtrusive in my driving.
2. I dont know if this has ever been stated here before but i think this is even more important. The ultra reflective dashboard. Driving around at around 6:00-7:30 (when sun is setting) is blinding. Cleaning the windshield doesnt seem to do much help and cleaning the dash only makes it worse. It is really hard to drive when u can barely make out the shapes of cars because at times it can be so bad. I dont know if its because of the angle of the windshield or not but it is really annoying and hope GM does something to fix it

Those pillars are part of the reason the F-body died, and no doubt that dashboard can be pretty annoying at certain times of the day.
But nothing, and I mean NOTHING is as bad or unforgivable to me as these big 2 items:
1.A Fuel Gauge that can't measure Fuel:
I don't know what unit of measurement the people who came up with this jewel use, but I can't think of any system where 2/3 means half a tank, 1/2 means 1/4 tank, and 1/4 tank means 50 feet. The "E" marking is just there to fill up space, since the needle doesn't seem to reach there till 5 minutes after running out of gas. And forget trying to start your car with less than an indicated 1/4 tank (I guess at that level, it's measures only the fuel in the injectors, since there doesn't seem to be any anywhere else).
2.Indefeteable automatic lights:
These beauties are loads of fun when driving on to military installations at night that have clearly posted signs stating "All Vehicles MUST dim lights" with highly armed gate sentries, especially in this "high-alert", "every-base-is-a-potential-terriorist-target", "post 9-11" world.
With the mileage I drive I NEED an accurate fuel guage, or at least the one Ford has ("E" seems to equal a quarter tank). And I absolutely need to be able to dim my own lights. If logic dictates that if I release my parking brakes, the lights come on, if I set my brake the lights should go off. For some reason the brainiac that came up with this didn't figure that out.... or that there are some people who need to dim lights in certain situations, ie: military guys, considerate apartment neighbors, etc...

The fuel guage in my third gen shows pretty close to what is in the tank, until I get down under 1/4 tank. I can get roughly another 30 miles after the needle passes "E" and comes to a complete stop.

Defeating the auto lights on my 00Z was easy, just cut one wire and solder another. Now the lights won't come on,including the drl's, unless I turn them on.

Blindspots sucked. Dash was way too long/big. I never had any problems with the fuel gauge, and the lights didn't really bother me - though I would prefer them to be fully manual.
Other things...car needs to "feel" smaller and more nimble (regardless of actual dimensions, if it "feels" bulky, it is - as far as the driver is concerned).
Do something with the glass rear diff.
Things to keep...
- Whatever LSx engine is currently being produced. Prefer the largest one, please.
- GM's great A4 tranny (wish Ford would figure out how to do them)
- wheel-mounted stereo controls (I never really cared till I did NOT have them)
- T-tops. The single biggest thing I miss about my T/A is the T-tops.

I won't be buying another car with them, even if I have to leave GM to avoid them.
Re: There are two things that I feel GM MUST fix for the 5th gen
I know when the current Tahoe/Suburban was released (2000?) GM made a DRL override on those vehicles. I think you pushed the dome light override button 5 times in a row or something like that. When the 99 Silverado came out, they didn't have the DRL override and the hunters and fishermen complained about not being able to turn them off. Therefore the next model Silverados and the new Tahoe/Subs got the override. Pretty cool!!
So Guy, just write to GM that you hunt/fish out of your current F-body and are having problems with the DRL's. Couldn't hurt!

The other way to override DRLs is to bring the e-brake up to its first click before starting the car. It's not enough to actually engage the brake, but it's enough to keep the DRLs off.
