Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I find the nay sayers of retro, how retro is wrong and how they won't buy a car that has a retro look humourous. This car will be a hit and certain vehicles with retro cues will continue to be a hit. Regardless if some forum surfers stomp their feet.... (the latter being a small minority)
I can't wait to see one, and my father in law held off on buying a new convertible stang immediately after I showed him the black challenger concept drawing. His age? late 40s.....quote from his email and take it for what its worth and I can promise you the majority will like this car for which it is targetted for...
"When the challenger comes to Edmonton I will be checking it out for sure, if I like what I see you bet I will be driving one home. That car looks so good in the drawing, if don’t like it I will be getting a new mustang gt conv, I want to buy a new car and after you showed me that challenger I have been waiting for the challenger."

Charlie,
Not sure how accurate the blurbs are, according to Allpar, the car is going to come in one trim level, ala the GTO, and the 6.1 and a "pistol grip 6 spd" are supposed to be the running gear; at least until DCX is through with their trial of building the Challenger along side the other LX cars. If that price is correct, all I can say is that they are throwing down a gauntlet that will be hard for GM and Ford to ignore.

Yeah I caught that too (retro R/T badge no less!) Here is a post over at AllPar http://www.allpar.com/forums/index.p...ic=68959&st=20, see especially post 37 by Bob Sheaves. This, IMO, lends some credence to the tag line, though the price still seems pretty low to me.
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I would like to add some fire to the flames. Looks like Ford is really going to have a problem on their hands and GM had better get with the program to stay in the game.

But will the 6.1 be the SRT or should we be looking for a 500hp gt500 fighter? my guess is for 35k you will get 500hp!
oh and maybe you will see a new tranny that lets you pick gears?
wow you could put that same combo eng/trny in a firepower couldnt you?
watch for a razor/scooter/"type car" with turbo and a 6 speed tranny too.
oh yea and watch this thread catch fire from this point on!

Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I gotta say I kinda like it. A car like that which was only around for about 5 years I don't mind being retro. I think that car can be a sucess. I also think it will be a real challenge to the Camaro and M*stang, they got the name, details, and the look right this time.
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
If these numbers are right, the Challenger could be the best bang for the buck out there.
Too bad Chrysler decided to stop being innovative and go retro with this one tho.

Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
If this information about power output and price is correct, I hope many of you guys on here might now realize that a 325hp midlevel v8 is going to be unacceptable.
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I still want to know how you get a 425 horsepower Hemi car for 28k? Is that a stripper model, with none of the so called creature comforts that everyone claims to be so important?

#1. They cant just go THAT retro, years after the latest Mustang without some kinda extra hook to gather the attention. And I think 375+hp for under $30K would do that!
#2. Dodge is like Ford in that they dont have ignorant rules. If they wanna build a bad *** car, its done. Didnt Ford have a Cobra (or Cobra-r), Bullitt, Mach 1, GT, and base all in 1 year once? They can just do things like that. They dont have GM's preset mentality of "I dont care if it is on an Ahmish carriage, its got over 400hp so its gonna be expensive"
