Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I'm happy to see some of the "muscle cars" of some of your pasts coming back to life. Being 19, I always thought my generation was cheated because now the legends of past are gone or toned down and there just really isn't anything to get excited over compared to the excitement people got over the new Camaro, Mustang, GTO, etc of the original days. I think it's really exciting for my generation to be seeing some of the muscle we only heard about being brought back. IMO, it was the late 60's early 70's when these cars just screamed bad *** and looked great! I love seeing some of the muscle styling brought back to life. I can't even imagine how tight the security is at Chevy, after this photo being leaked and that being Chrysler's surprise for NAIAS... but I wouldn't mind there being one leaked spy shot, preferably high res... of the Camaro.
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
Its hard to say it looks bad, because I love the first Challengers. The problem?
IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE FIRST CHALLENGER. That is as retro as retro gets!!!!!!!!!!! That is just simply awful. The Ford GT, while retro, at least looks modern. The Mustang, while being retro, still pulls off looking new.
This thing? From the full-width rear tailights with "DODGE" in chrome lettering, the front end, the greenhouse, the chrome window trim, the overall silhouette, EVERYTHING SCREAMS 1970.
If GM does this with the 5th gen, I am running and hiding. Who the hell wants a car from the '80s that looks more modern??????

No doubt about, it's a polarizing design.
Good for DCX. They're taking a chance and not putting something out there that won't impress nor offend anyone.
I happen to dig it.

Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
Don't get me wrong, I love old Challengers..I used to own a 1970...(and I'll have a perfect 1970, 440, A3 car for sale real soon)........BUT, this is a very odd, lazy attempt at design.
I saw a real lazy design attempt in the Charger....but this is just too wierd. It's like they actually took a 1970 and just Foose'd it.........but it does look good, but then why not? I loved it the first time around too.......

Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I like it...course they never look like the concept pics...so we'll see when the actual concept comes out and then again when the production is released.
Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
Yeah, there's no mistaking it for anything other than a Challenger. I'll hold my final opinion until viewing in Detroit.

Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I think it is actually pretty sweet. Even though it would suck... I'm going to laugh when these retro cars really hit it off and the "new looking camaro" isn't what people want. The only people that I have talked to that don't like retro, is on this site. I work at a GM dealership and we have one of '69 camaro concepts on the desktop and everyone there hopes it looks like that....
How many heads are going to turn when that challenger is driving down the road? I know it's sure going to turn mine (22yrs old) and sure turn my dads head (47yrs old) and my grandpas. Not to mention the 6.1 Hemi 425hp and T56 I assume.
Every time my dad talks about his '67 and '69 camaros, he sure wishes he still had one. I'm betting a lot of other people would too.

Re: Spy pics: Dodge Challenger Concept Car
I'll wait 'till I see it for a final jugdement, but my first impression is
Why does American design continue to be no talent rip-off hack jobs of the past? Is it really becoming too much to ask for something original and stunning?
