I hope that I feel stupid, when Chevy actually comes out with a car called Camaro.
I hope that I feel stupid, when it turns out that this Camaro is really a Camaro and not a Chevy GTO.
I hope I really feel stupid, when I find out that the Camaro won't be based on the general architecture from a mid-1990's Opel sedan.
Until then........
BTW, are you in the Guard or Reserve?
The Il ANG, took me on a KC-135 training flight afew years ago. I had full access - cockpit, boom, whole nine yards. It was pretty cool!

Now the thought of bringing GTO-like cars out, weighing that much before you even add the subframe connectors, 10 point cage, blower, intercooler w piping, and a switch to an iron block has made me decide that I'll only be buying newer trucks and restoring older cars. For the price of a 3900lb 'performance' car in a few years, i can build a tube frame street iroc with a gorgeous interior and twice the HP if I want to.
If a nice looking sub 3400lb high-po Camaro Z28 1LE T56 with ttops gets made, I'll want it. If it doesnt, I'll just fight the battle with my good old camaros made back when GM knew how to make a car and not an appliance

You most certainly aren't going to take a brand new car, and weld in 10 point cages, intercoolers, piping, or install an iron block, so I really don't know why you are even commenting about this at all.
Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
Anyone up for a V8 Chevy coupe with RWD and alot of performance should be happy in a couple of years.
Anyone hoping for the name to be Camaro, may (or may not) be dissappointed.
If you want a modern version of a rwd pony car, you'll probally wait till at least the end of the decade.
The blame for all this lies primarily with the GM management that was in place 4 years ago. They really made a mess of things. But the blame for everything taking so long to turn around is GM's structure and corperate mentality.
As far as have faith, I probally know more than the average person about what's in the pipeline.
My advice based on this?
If you are holding out for a great new affordable GM performance car, unless the supercharged Cobalt SS tickles your fancy, go elsewhere (Chrysler primarily, but also Ford...SVTs about to make a major comeback) and take advantage of a 24-36 month lease or structure your payments so you won't be upside down in 2007. By then, we should see the start of GM's REAL performance turn around.
We should not only see 2 Zeta coupes by then, we should also have a turbo Solstice & another Kappa car by then. Maybe even a performance Zeta sedan as well.

I'm not holding my breathe on a 5th Gen. I'll keep my 93 and rebuild it and rebuild it and rebuild it..........
I can't say I've jumped ship but the next GM product I buy will be a 03-04 Z06 in say 5 yrs and drop a 436ci in it, and 05' Porsche CS in about 6-7 yrs. Used is the only way to go and if the 5th gen does come out I'll buy it used too.

A V8 RWD Chevy coupe is coming. If you're not too picky, which I think alot of people are not, you'll be happy. If you're not too concerned about outhandling M3's or RX8's...you'll be happy. If you're not too concerned about excessive mass you'll be happy. And if you're not too concerned about it being a Camaro....either in execution or name you'll be happy.
As far as I'm concerned.....I doesn't look like I'll be very happy. I haven't purchased a new Camaro in 15 years. I've been waiting patiently for my car to come. Looks like I'll be waiting some more.
My biggest concern here however, is that Chevy may consider the Zeta coupe "good enough" to cover this segment....and not see an adequate reason for a "real" Camaro. From what I know about it, I certainly hope that it DOES NOT come wearing a Camaro emblem.
Here's an interesting tidbit. It is my understanding that the (smaller more Camaro-like) GONGOS car that Danno saw, clinic'd so well that GM rethought it's sales projections....revising them 50%-80% higher than initial estimates. Now, the larger Zeta coupe - with some styling elements from the clinic car - has had it's sales projections revised back down again.

Still, I think it bears saying at this point...
People have opened wallets for over 8.4-million Mustangs to date.
There are people who have owned Mustangs since they started driving.
I beg of you folks to consider that a Mustang is as close as you can get to a Camaro these days, so it might be more enjoyable than you think.
Where's WERM during all of this?!?!

tell that to the 350Z owner that got his doors blown off last night by my '05.V6 power=no torque.and by the way, better finished does not apply when comparing to a 2005 mustang, these cars have changed drastically. In fact, maybe better finished than a nissan.

Just my best guess from everything I've read over the months, but I think the ship sailed on the Camaro name this summer and all the critical mass got in line behind other options within GM. Red's leaving may have been just as much frustration internally in GM as with us.
If nothing else, I've seen how the purists crapped all over the new GTO..I think GM has decided it may not be the best move to resurrect every sacred name they have...
All three of these vehicles were bought used, for substantially less than their new-car sticker prices. New cars are a horrible investment, you are pissing away money on depreciation and you will never get that money back.
The ONLY car I'd consider buying new is a new Camaro, but short of that I doubt I'll ever buy a new car. I'd rather take that money saved in not paying for depreciation and put into parts for the Trans am or even more importantly my retirement and/or my home, etc. etc. I won't even buy a Corvette new if I ever am in the market. A Camaro would be different though.
I'm settling in to become the F-body equivalent of all the old Chevelle enthusiasts...the purists that stick with their cars for decades, not the boy racers who trade off to the next big thing and blow more money on depreciation every time a cool new model comes out. I'm only putting about 3000 miles a year on my car, so it's got plenty of life left in it. So I'll pull it out and drive to the cruise ins in the summers and when I'm 50 yrs old I'll be the old guy with the cool car in the garage.
I'm holding out for nostalgia that will come with having a cool car thats 20 years old. I'm holding out for the f-body scene becoming another dedicated group of people worshiping a dead car name and keeping it alive like the Chevelle has been kept alive.

The only new car I will probably buy in the next 10-15 years is a new Camaro, and that's because I refuse to take the depreciation hit for a car I drive every day...but a car I buy and keep forever, such as a new 5th gen? You never realize a depreciation hit unless you sell something...I would never sell a 5th gen, and may end up being buried in my Z, unless I give it to a future child someday. With 57k on it now, and putting no more than 3k on it per summer, I too will never wear mine out.I am sticking it out, but do not expect much. Unless GM sees the Mustang as a legitimate threat to its wallet, we will never see another Camaro. I know Red says keep the faith, but I just don't see it...Zeta is too damn big, Kappa will probably prove too damn small, and we lost Camaro this last time because it had a unique chassis. Nothing will change that. And the longer the name is gone, the more it is irrelevant to the marketplace. I honestly expect very, very little.
I love GM and will always own GM cars, but I have found I really like cars they no longer make. I love my Grand Prix as a COUPE. I worship my Z28. And frankly, my next purchase will be an off-lease Alero, not the new Cobalt I was considering. With Olds' depreciation making these cars rock-bottom deals, I can't say no. My girlfriend's Probe is dying, she wants the GP, and I want a car I can take a 24 month loan on, pay off and still be able to buy a third gen before they get too old and/or too pricey. I like several new GM models a lot, actually.
I just don't love them. And love is what will make me open my wallet to a new car over a nice year or two old one...
