So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
Maybe some folks are confused about the meaning of the word faith.
I believe, in this context, the word "faith" means a belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.
I think Red Planet's encouragement to those who choose to "keep the faith" is genuine.
IMO, there seem to be some here who might see themselves as more expert than facts would bear out. Maybe some are often believed that they "know" when pirmarily they GUESS how the vehicle manufacturing business works. It's the internet and it goes with the territory.

Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
Ive never seen such a large group of people ready to sell there Camaros for Mustang just because its out.
Ill keep the faith. Call me a die hard, call me anti-ford..whatever. Ill keep the faith till Red himself comes out and says there will be no Camaro. Till then, I will hope it will come.
Enjoy your Mustangs.

Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
**** GM. I took it as a big slap in my face when they discontinued the Camaro. There is no other car that holds such heritage and respect as does the F-Body hold. They didn't do **** to help the car when it was struggling, only look for excuses to end it's production. I respect Ford because when times got rough for the Mustang, they took their best engineers and went back to the drawing boards. Now look where the Mustang is..
The only reason why I haven't bought a Mustang is because I treasure my Camaro so greatly. I honestly doubt I'll ever find another car I have so much firing up for another day of cruising. I'm still handing on to my pledge not to buy another GM car brand new. They can kiss my ***..
Bob Putz needs to be shot..

Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
What do I think of the current situation? Well, I think the writing was on the wall in '96, when GM decided to kill the B-body so they could build more SUVs. Eight years later, GM is watching Yukon/Tahoe/'burb sales drop like a rock, while Ford is sure to have a hit one their hands with the Mustang and Chrysler can't manage to make enough 300s and Magnums.
GM may soon realize that as they continue to make their vehicles less American, and as they continue to abandon "the faithful", then there will be fewer and fewer reasons to purchase a GM vehicle. Or they may never figure out it, and wonder why we don't all run to the dealerships for a Grand Prix GXP (hint: the second-gen Ford Taurus SHO and VW Passat W8 weren't exactly smashing successes, and they weren't even up against such a wonderful vehicle as the Chrysler 300C Hemi).
Maybe I'm not the best person for GM to listen to, because the last new vehicle that I put into the garage had "Kubota" on the hood (easily the worst doller-per-horsepower purchase I've ever made), and I've pretty much resigned myself to only buying used cars with cash from here on out because there's more important things to spend my money on than interest and depreciation (let's not fool ourselves into thinking that we're not paying for low interest rates in some way, and my latest purchase of a '91 Caprice wagon cost less than two month's worth of depreciation on a new Malibu MAXX). But let's for a moment pretend that I was in the new-car market, and that I was going to make a purchase straight out of my bank account (it seems so much more serious when the decision isn't broken down into 48 or 60 monthly payments). I'd find it nearly impossible to drop that money on any GM product except for their full-size trucks and the Vette. If I'm buying a sports coupe, it's going to be a Mustang. If I'm buying a sedan, I'll pick up a 300C Hemi. For a sport compact, I'll take a WRX over a Cobalt SS. The list goes on and on. If I want a product that's years late to the market and falls short of the benchmark, then maybe I'll hit the GM car lots. For anything without crossed flags or a 8600+ lb GVWR, I'll be contributing to the profits of some other OEM.
"Keep the faith"? What they heck is that supposed to mean? If it means hanging on to one of the coolest cars ever to come out of Detroit, and bleeding Bowties every time I smash a knuckle while working on it, then cool, I'll do that. If it means buying a boring FWD car that offers little reason for me to buy it beyond the emblem on the hood, and maintaining some sort of candlelight vigil for a nameplate that GM has no interest in supporting, then perhaps I'll pass. If GM "owes" nothing to me, then I'll reciprocate.

Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
GM is going to have to try pretty hard to earn me back as a customer. In a few years when/if I'm looking to ditch my tC, GM will have to have something really special, or I'll drive right past their lot like I do Hyundai now.

Oh wait, the market is covered by the Monte Carlo and the Cobalt SS. ha.
Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
I didnt get the Maxx because its the best GM could do, I got the Maxx cause I wanted a flexable hatchback. Something that GM has never had, and I would have to have gone to look elsewhere. I liked the Maxx because it gave me everything I needed. Best fuel economy in its class, good quality interior, flexable seating, and plenty of power to pass 90% of whats on the street. I didnt buy the the Maxx as a replacement for a Camaro. I could have gotten an 02 Z28 or SS if I wanted a sports car, but I wanted something other then a sports car. Even if there was an 04 Camaro out, I dont think I would have gotten it. I would deffinatly have waited till I was older.

I don't think he was implying that the 05 M*stang is better looking than the Z28 or a nice 3rd Gen, (which BTW it isn't, won't, can't, wouldn't, couldn't, ever be) I think what he was trying to say is that with todays choices it's basically M*stang or nothing and if you choose an 05 you get a brand new car.
Really good post EB, difficult for anyone to argue with what you said. GM needs help, they owe us whether they want to believe it or not. Chevy needs help, they need a Camaro and a real Impala SS kinda car. A Chevelle and Corvette's with even more power would round everything out nicely. Basically they need V8, RWD, options, bargains, performance, and incredible styling. If you want to pay more money for a heavier car that has more luxury with contemporary looks, buy a Pontiac. The improved 05 GTO and G6 are a really good start for them. Make desirable cars people actually want. Get sales back and keep them going, gain a better reputation. No more "Chevy isn't Chevy" or "they (insert brand) aren't what they should or used to be." Just make things right and stop ignoring the customers and enthusiasts who only say time and again what they want. Stop bringing out mediocrity and appliances, people want exciting real cars that will be talked about years from now and thought of as something great. Start listening GM, or you will regret it, without a doubt.

Re: So What Does Everyone Think of the Current Situation Around Here?
I personally plan on “keeping the faith”. When I was in the market for a new vehicle GM had already made its announcement that the F-body was dead. This made my decision to keep my camaro easy. I will run the pi$$ out of it until I can afford a new Z06 or if there is a new camaro.

And then of course there will be some who will be happy with the Mustang and will keep it / continue to love it.
