Looks like a landslide.

Yes, a landslide with a large enough sample size to make this poll totally scientific...

I hate to say it but this poll is almost like a "redzed poll" in that it leaves out important options. There was no "about the same size" choice. Also it seems like half the people voted for smaller based on some sort of notion that a Mustang is the size of a beached whale when it is clearly smaller than a 4th gen.

All in all, if I were to look at the poll without reading any of the thread, it would appear that the respondents want to rename the Cobalt coupe Camaro. How much smaller than Mustang do you people want Camaro? Are the rear seats supposed to sacrifice as much legroom as on a 911? How are you going to fit a decent sized motor in the engine bay?

What are the dimensions that you are looking for?

If you're asking me, I 'd say 182-185".

I honestly second that "not enough choice's" That is pretty much the need for my replies (Im just stupid and truly forgot to mention it). There was no "same size" option.

I'd say if you took about 10-12 inches off the length, lengthed the wheel baase 3-4 inches, put the width in at the third or forth gens (hard for me to pick one since I think I want to move the seating position to that of the third gen...I think I need a ride a Charlie's Z to appreciate the difference) and upped the height by just 1/2 inch, you'd have a killer profile for a modern sports car.

Add a bullit like front end like the LT1 cars and/or McLaren SLR, and you've got one mean looking sports car.

My boss's Mustang may not be bigger in length or width than my '95, but parked next to each other, the Mustang is visibly MUCH LARGER overall. "Size" is not truly captured with basic overall length/height/width dimensions. The VOLUME of the Mustang is enormous, to the point that it looks like you could easily PARK a 4th gen underneath a Mustang's outer shell.

Because what does "same size" actually mean? Does it mean a 5th gen EXACTLY the same size and same proportions, in every way, as an '05 Mustang? That of course is not realistic.
What if I offered a choice of "about the same " as '05 Mustang? "About the same" means what? Any where from alittle smaller to the same to alittle bigger.

I purposely didn't want to muddy the water.

Oh, and HAZ-Matt, this poll is not completely scientific, but almost 100 enthusiasts of varying degrees voted , and over 80% prefer the 5th gen to be smaller than the current Mustang. Draw your own conclusions.

That was my point, the waters are already muddy. What does bigger or smaller than a Mustang mean? It seems like some people are now arguing that Mustang is may not be physically big, but it is distorts gravity in such a way that the light bouncing off of it makes it appear huge.

My conclusion for this poll is only that 80 voted for "smaller than Mustang" and 17 voted "larger than Mustang." I guess we don't want a 5th Gen based on GMT900. How much smaller than a Mustang can you make a Camaro and still have it be a Camaro and not a Silvia/240SX?

I'm also not sure that enthusiasts are necessarilly the best people to ask about designing a car that is supposed to have some sales volume to it like the 5th gen will need to have.

Same size meant 188*, I can't agree with you here Z284 as nearly every person that didn't vote and replied instead said they wanted something of similar size. When I did a poll like this a while back most people voted for 187* specifically and bigger. The last M*stangs were like 185* or less and they looked tiny, which IMO is not appealing. I definetly want something slightly bigger than 1st Gens. It really depends on how the car is proportioned though.

If you made the 5th Gen 182-185 inches in length is anyone going to be able to tell it is smaller than Mustang without measuring?

For those of you wanting something the same size or slightly bigger than a 1st gen, why aren't you buying a GTO?

Absolutely! The SN95 is 183" long and I think most people can instantly tell the difference in size. Especially when they are next to each other.

My take on this is, if the people who frequent this site (4th/3rd gen biased)want a smaller than '05 Mustang, 5th gen .....then for sure "Jenny the receptionist" wants something smaller as well.

I wouldn't mind if the 5th gen. was the same size or slightly smaller than the new mustang. But It cannot be bigger and for got sakes it must but alot lighter than the obese new mustang. I cannot see a 5th gen being very competitive if it weighs 3700 lbs!
