Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
Re: Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
just some random thougts here as I wait for another software program to do it's job:
1.) Weight is your emeny. Ask any racer, engineer, fitness trainer. Weight not only slows you down, increase feul consumption, increases the amount of raw material to make the car, it effects handling dynamics. Weight = bad.
2.) I appreciate those of you who have a wife, a mistress, 3 kids and a dog on the side, but you are not what coupe are made for. It's great you want one to do all that, but coupes should be stylish first functional secondly. Now, I'm not saying it can't be, the quad door idea on a GTO or Monte has merit. It's just IMO, they add unessesary cut lines in the body and have so far (Ion and RX-8) create blocky rear quarter windows that look more in place on a sedan than a swoopy coupe.
Remember a few years ago when coupes were called 'lifestyle cars'? As idiotic as that sounded, and really it was pretty idiotic, that's what they are. The lifestyle is single people with a girlfried/boyfriend or mistress who only use the back seat for gym bags, groceries and our drunk friends.

solstice and corvette and sky are for those types of people who don't need back seats. Why else would they be put in there??? To add weight? To look pretty?
Why are you more liberal on giving the GTO or monte quad coupe doors and not the Camaro? I know we are on a heavily Camaro biased site but come on. The 4th Gen tried to be what you want, a corvette with barely usable back seats, real long slung, swoopy design. It didn't work! The ponycar was intended for people who wanted to be able to have a small, sporty coupe, with enough room for there small family or a couple of friends to ride along. Not just for the enthusiast who wants to race.
Re: Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?
Just my personal position the Camaro should still be the 'Poor Man's 'Vette', especially now that the 'Vette has evolved into a sophisticated and refined package.
I'm more liberal to giving the GTO and Monte extra doors because I don't think the market that shops those cars are looking for a canyon carver, but sporty cars with a stylish image for the boulevard but more utility than a sportscar (i.e. Camaro).
Yes, quad doors seem to work on the RX-8, but I really do not like the vertical styling of the b-pillar area. Plus, quad doors don't make the rear seats any more usefull, nessesarily (IMO), the rear seats of an RX-8 are still really tight for adults and kids.

I don't think the new stang is too big. But i sure wouldn't mind a camaro that's a tad bit smaller.
I really liked the sn95's. Not too big, not too small. In the end, weight figures were good (under 3300lbs for GT), and the proportions were right on. It didn't have the overhangs of the 4th gen camaro or 05 stangs. So i think the sn95's is the car the 5th gen should shoot for as far as overall length and weight is concerned. Could you imagine a 400hp Ls2 in a sleek under 3,3XXlbs body?? that'd be amazing.

And I'm assuming you meant 3,2xx lbs, right?

On another note, it has been hinted at strongly that the new Camaro will be MacPherson struts up front and an independent rear, but what kind of suspension would the rear likely get? Struts as well?
