Revised Zeta returns.
Re: Revised Zeta returns.
2008 as a 2009 model?
There is no way that I will ever buy a car in it's first year, or the first year after a major workover, so that means the earliest I would be in the market for a camaro would be realistically late 2009. I graduate from college this May, 2006. There is no way in hell I am going to wait another 3 years after that to buy a new camaro.
Gah, honestly at this point I kind of hope the camaro doesn't come back. I would rather not see it come back incredibly late to the party and end up being a 2 or 3 year deal and then dying again.
It's weird to say it, but I think I am going to end up buying a turbo solstic or sky and have a fun roadster type car instead of a new camaro. I used to think I would wait as long as it takes, but it keeps taking longer and longer.
I just don't think I can be that patient, and I just can't see how the camaro showing up that late is going to change anything. I understand the platform sharing concept, but wouldn't you still need to sell somewhere over 60k units to continue the model at the minimum? I just don't see it happening at this point.
Could someone knowledgeable fill me in on the typical break even unit numbers, or something along those lines so we could at least get an idea of how many cars would need to be moved?

Re: Revised Zeta returns.
If Zeta has nothing to do with Camaro, then it would mean that it is something completly different. Everything seemed to point to it being some form of a Sigma-Lite....but now that is the new Zeta...so what does that leave?
We know it is not Kappa or Y-body..not Zeta...which is now Sigma Lite.
Also it will be accompanied by a volume car made off the same platform....
That leaves the old Sigma, or Sigma II. Could the volume car that the Camaro is based off be the 07 CTS (Sigma II)? It has been said we would see the volume sister car to the Camaro very soon...and the CTS is soon. Also...if they wanted to make a coupe CTS...tying it to the Camaro program would save across the board. Also, now most of Sigma's cost has been ammoralized (I am guessing there won't be huge changes with Sigma II)....so it could all make sense.
Just a some wild *** guessing...probaly wrong.

Lets not forget the alternate sport bike analogy. I think the phrase was, it would be built off an existing platform that everyone had overlooked, and would seem to come from out of nowhere. Not entirely sure I got that right (too lazy to look it up - maybe someone else will), but I think that was the gist.
What have we overlooked???
What have we overlooked???

When Zeta was postponed several months ago, the alternate sport bike post was made. You are correct in that the old Zeta program contained the Camaro, and that was cancelled/postponed; BUT, the alternate sport bike post told us that there was a secondary design team working on an alternate "sport bike" based on an existing platform that would seem to come from out of nowhere. My take is that the work on the Camaro went forward on this alternative proposal (not the original Zeta). Many sources are telling us that the new Zeta has nothing to do with Camaro, which fits with this scenario, and I believe them; for many reasons. This whole thing could be incorrect, but the little bit which is hinted at by the insiders seems to fit with this alternate sport bike scenario, which would mean that even though new Zeta won't be here until 2010, a new Camaro is not so constained.
If this truly is the case, the Camaro could be here very soon. The real gating factor would be the lead time for tooling. I'm sure that any suppliers are(would be) under Draconian gag orders, but maybe someone has a brother-in-law that knows someone that works at a supplier that is expediting tooling. Surely someone knows something. If no one knows a thing, that may be a hint that we are in for a disappointment.
The big question is, which platform is it on? Old sigma? maybe. Could be almost anything. I wouldn't even throw out a modified 4th gen, but probably not. Red responded in a post a couple of weeks ago, that it wasn't a truck (although there seems to be some sort of tie-in with the Bel-Air concept of a couple of years ago), so we at least know that much.
