At least that's what I've seen locally.
some people might see it that way, and some might see it from a performance perspective who knows. it all depends one what some one is looking for when then look for a car. i always thought the 350z was a sharp car its just not my cup of tea there are other cars id rather have the seem like they would have a more fun factor.

i personally have never cared about how exclusive or how well a car is liked. to me all that matters is it does the job it is intended to do whether thats tow a pwc, get sheet rock, get great mpg or put a smile on my face.

So more realistically the car will weigh 3200lbs, if they can really cut 200lbs from it. That is a lot considering most cars keep getting heavier because of new safety requirements, and lightweight materials are expensive.

I am amazed by how much horsepower they can get out of that 3.7L V6. It must not have a lot of naturally aspirated horsepower left to gain from your basic mods.

I wouldn't associate a 350Z with luxury / creature comforts. Maybe the G35 2+2 seater.

I sure as hell don't consider it a status symbol, though it is certainly more rare (and more "rarified") than a 4th gen F-car.

The 350Z sort of slots between an F-car and a Corvette in terms of price range.

In regard to the 05+ GT vs LS1 argument... all I can really say is what's the best a 05+ GT has run 100% stock? I believe the answer for the LS1 is 12.8x

Yeah that is a good question. I do believe the Mustang GT can keep up with the LS1 Fbody in your typical stoplight race given average drivers in both cars. The Mustang launches fairly well, but it is slower by several tenths and several mph in the 1/4 mile.

As far as the 370Z goes, I kinda like the more aggressive styling. The early 350Zs were a little bland and the giant refrigerator door handles were tacky. I liked the recent bulged hood update. On the whole I greatly preferred the styling of the G35. As far as performance goes, certainly a 370Z if it makes 350HP and weighs only 3000lbs would by quite an opponent for a stock Fbody (if any of those even exist anymore). Average power and revs are important, not really torque so much. You can make up the torque with gearing, and Japanese sporty cars are geared pretty aggressively. But if it loses 200lbs it should really weigh more like 3100-3200lbs. We will just have to wait and see what the final specs are and we can see what the tests show. That is unless we don't have anything better to do, in which case we can continue to speculate and argue

It's a real testiment to the performance of the 4th gen LS1 F-body that after 10 years for some they are still being compared to the latest and greatest sports coupes on the market today and in case of the 370Z a few years out. Even today If given the choice of a Mustang GT even in Bullitt trim vs. a 4th Gen LS1 Z28 or Formula/TA in a rung whatcha bring episode of Pinks I'd take the LS1 and have the trailer ready to take home the Mustang.

As for bench racing. Certainly on paper a 370Z with 350hp and 3000lb's should better then LS1 and Mustang. We don't know the torque and the power lines under the curve for the 370Z and so until the cars are lined up it'll be hard to tell.

It should also be noted that when comparing magazine times there is a big descrepency between say MT, C&D and GM High Perfornance and then the times and speeds in the real world for LS1's. I've run my fair share of 14's and 12's behind the wheel of LS1 Camaro's... sometimes with the same car at the same event.

I meant to say the t56's 1:1 was 4th.

your friend has a lid, about 10 rwhp there, ported tb, 5 rwhp maybe, gears, good for a couple tenths, and a tune, which is at least 10 rwhp with those mods. so he has 25 rwhp or so above what a stock LS1 car dynos along with the gears. you must have really good DA because I don't see many stock exhaust F-bodies running 113. my friend with a 380 rwhp cammed auto trans am trapped 116. he goes 10.7 @ 127 on a 120 shot another friend with a 440 rwhp trans am trapped just shy of 118 (although his car is fully optioned with some added weight above stock.) he goes 10.8 @ 134 on a 200 shot.
I was wrong about my friend's time. at the same track as the above two cars ran my other friend with his 350Z ran a 13.7 @ 101. he has a 13.9 @ 101 on video. only mods were nissan track 350Z wheels and a clutch. absolutely nothing else.

I think Evan Smith's time was 12.7x in an '02 Z28 A4.

So, you're Ving Rhames in this case, huh? You DO remember what happened to him later in the movie, don't you?

some of the replies in this thread are deliriously dogmatic and funny.....

this quote from another member on a different forum sums it up best:

"No way dude...i saw an LS1 fight godzilla and the LS1 beat godzilla and it looked in the air and was like what do you think of that god? And god was like bring it bitch, so they fought and the LS1 beat god and now the LS1 is god because its the greatest thing ever"

I've already said that I'm done bench racing. Let me know when you catch up.

My last trip to the strip in my IROC, which has a completely stock motor, TPI and all, except BS bolt ons(pulleys, airfoil, chip, K&N's etc)...ran a 13.9@100.(1.65@60ft that broke my drivers seat mount!)
And I was beaten by a bone stock Ford Lightning that went 13.8@103.
And there were stock stick shift, LT1's there running 13.6's...LS1's were very low 13's and a stock "SS" that went 12.89 on some good, Goodyears.

Great time and all, but I'd hardly call that "completely stock."

Seriously, thats trash and you know it. God has an LS9 5th gen and a supercharged ZZ502 in his first gen.

The LS1 was just him sending his son to earth to straighten the mortals "mustangs" out

I am unaware of this one. I thought the best one he ran was a 12.89 in a 6 speed z28, that was pre 01/02 (I am thinking 2000). As far as what the best time an 05+ Mustang GT has run: MM&FF has never gotten them into the 12s, and the car has not been undertested.
