You have an incredibly loose definition of 'completely stock motor'. Can we also expect a change of rear end gears, slicks, weight reduction mods, etc since you specified 'motor'?

IROCs don't hit 13s stock.

I never heard of this run. 12.7's in a A4 (stock) would be quite noteworthy.

I know of 2 runs made by Evan Smith for GMHTP; The famed 1999 Z28 6M driven to 12.89 at Atco raceway with great conditions. I also know of the 2001 SS red 6M also driven to 12's at E-Town in less than ideal conditions.

I was thinking the times were actually 12.89 in the 6speed SS in some summer heat, whereas the 6speed Z28 ran 12.79 in better weather.

Popular mechanics ran an LS1 Firebird to a 13.1 If I can find the article, I will most certainly post it. I guess that must have been a fluke, too.

Good find and thanks for posting 93Phoenix. I did a quick search yesterday and couldn't find anything on those GMHTP/Evan Smith runs. (Outside of my own magazine collection) Seems like that info on the net has been erased.

One look at trap speeds tells the story...pretty obvious which is quicker/faster.
05+ Mustang GT: 100-103mph
Ls1 z28: 104-108

In guions defense, the main stream mags all are getting about mid/high 13's (13.4-13.7) for both the Ls1 fbods and 05+ GT's so i can see where there could be overlap or confusion.

I'm not a drag racer, but maybe the 4th gen fbods are trickier to launch/drive to their full potential, or something compared to the Mustangs. Seems like the mainstream mags have no trouble running Mustangs to near their full potential, but that has not been the case with the Ls1 cars.

Evan Smith is normally an editor for Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, which is what that article above is from. He was the one driving for GMHTP. They share the same offices. High Performance Pontiac and maybe a few others are also there.

One of the biggest differences between GMHTP's times and those by the more mainstream mags is that Evan powershifts. The mainstream mags shift like a normal person.

Good find. That is exactly what I was referring to. Seems like not all magazines drive fbodies like sh*t; only most of the mainstream ones do.

Yea I knew Evan worked for MM&FF but all from the same publisher. That was what made the runs so funny was that it took a Blue Oval lover to drive the LS1 cars to their best times.

What I couldn't find was the actual full articles in GMHTP because that's where they were put not in MM&FF, although it seems they ran a sidebar summing up their results in MM&FF. But the origional articles for the '99 Z and '01 SS were in GMHTP as I have those mags but have not able to be found on their site.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...6.html?page=11[/QUOTE]

This article brings back some good memories. My 99 SS looked very similar to the one in the article. Interesting to see how much has changed in 9 years. F-bodies, 3000GT and Lightning gone. 99 Cobra and the whole "fix" fiasco. The hardtop Vette was to be the cheaper and ligher combo, then dropped for the Z06. Viper soon to die now. The auto industry was booming especially in Detorit. The good 'ol days!

that deity would be what the thread starter and the whole discussion (before it went off-topic) was about: nissan's upcoming 350hp 370Z.

this car will hand the (dogmatically, and stubbornly worshiped) LS1 it's *** utilizing only 3/5 the displacement, and two less cylinders. no one remains king forever.

let me re-quote my other post for good measure:

"No way dude...i saw an LS1 fight godzilla and the LS1 beat godzilla and it looked in the air and was like what do you think of that god? And god was like bring it bitch, so they fought and the LS1 beat god and now the LS1 is god because its the greatest thing ever"
