More shots of '07 Commodore....including undercarriage!
Re: More shots of '07 Commodore....including undercarriage!
I think there are deffinalty several roads this all could pan out, going from good to way bad
Best Case as I see it.
GM approves the building of Sigma lite, which spawns many different variants such as mid sized coupes, to large sedans with varrying arrays of powertrains.
This would give us Camaro, GTO, and several large RWD sedans and possibly a "Ute" type pick up. This could be used to sell near and far, and shared with Europe as well.
I could only hope that Sigma-Lite is also ready for AWD action, or in the end it could be a big waste.

The only chance that I can see for an '08 GTO is if GM spends the bucks to certify the current car for future front impact standards. And really, as far as I know.....no one is even talking about that.

GM (as of mid-late August) still had not made a decision as to spend the money to redo the airbags on the GTO to comply. If the GTO is to expire on schedule late next summer (the end of the 2006 model year), or if GTO was going to continue for just 1 year, the answer is almost certainly not. GM could just pass the cost on, but that's extremely unlikely.
If the GTO were extended for 2 years (possible, but also questionable) then it would be a non issue. With Holden eliminating a shift, I doubt this & I also doubt the next Monaro-GTO will be made there even though Holden's seems to ba about to (or already has) wrapped up design and fixed hardpoints.

It looks like a double wishbone rear setup there, to me? Somebody please confirm as the undercar pic is a little less detailed than I would like.

Impala is going nowhere. It's going to remain FWD and the next Impala is going to be FWD-AWD. That means the Chevrolet Sedan is going to be a bigger car. My guess is that it's going to be around Bonneville-sized.

Seriously Josh's senario seems VERY likely given the little info we have to go on I guess we are just left with "Faith."

I'll say this...people are staying real, real quiet at GM about NAIAS. The people that do the rolling concepts aren't even sure what they are doing yet.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Such a state of flux.
Re: More shots of '07 Commodore....including undercarriage!
getting back to the new commodore, from the little bit that can be seen, i like it
seems like it will have an aggressive but not cartoony (aka charger) look to it. Im all for that. I am kinda worried about the apparent lack of rwd hardware. I dont know if its just a bad camera angle (dont think thats the case) but it doesnt even look like it was designed for rwd. the exhaust tubes dont even go up as to avoid the rear axel?!? Could it be a AWD variant and they are only testing the FD hardware?
