For some reason, Im not gunna listen to some marketing director, because like it was said, thats his job to cover Chevy's butt. I didnt like it when it came out, but it sure sounds like he is trying to fill the void.

Ill keep the faith.

Amen! Exactly what I was saying a few posts earlier.

Camaro? Firebird? Chevelle? Insertherewhateverthenameisgoingtobe? As long as it fits the bill, I''m all for it. Think outside the box for once. Some people are too hung up on just a name.

Confirmation enough.
Close enough, but like PP mentioned, they're the same people that are trying to compare an impala/cobalt to a mustang in that same article. For all we know, a "mustang competitor" could be just about anything sporty. But yes, it's a good enough indication...As good enough as we've heard to date.

Not at all. There are PLENTY of excellent performance coupes in the market, but i'm not automatically drawn to them. One of them is the GTO. I love the car inside and out (i really do), but the emotional draw and attachment just isn't there. An excellent car in all regards, but i won't be buying it anytime soon just because i don't feel as connected with it as i do camaro/mustang/firebird. Same for the 350z, and a host of other performance coupes. Some people take names lightly and don't care for whatever the badging says, but i don't. The Camaro, corvette, and Mustang's (and to a degree the Porsche 911's) strong heritage and mystique have always been a strong draw for me. Take that away, and i'm most likely not to look at the car in the same favorable light. Doesn't mean i won't buy it, but i won't be as emotionally attached to it if it had another name. It'll be just another car. The soul, the historical passion and connection gone. Just another new coupe with a new (or rehashed) name. Take away the name and you've taken out a key identity and an integral part of the "camaro" that seperates it from every other coupe on the market.

I second that!

If we listened to our right brain all the time then we'd all be driving I4 Econo Cars. Nostolgia goes hand in hand with RWD V8 performance. It's all part of the "experience".

Guy you said it yourself in the not-so-distant past, would GM really be jumping through this many hoops to allow them to use the Camaro name again if they weren't going to do it? Unless there's a VERY and I mean VERY good reason for an 11th-hour switch, I can't see the Chevy sports coupe being named anything else.

i voted forever, but thats b/c my 68 is my first car.

as for a 20XX sports coupe, i dont care what its called as long as it fits the bill. hell, if they axed the chevy version and came out with a good Pontiac Phoenix, i'd buy that in a heartbeat! i like the 4th gen TA's better anyhow.
