Yeah, uhm, because so many accidents are caused by TORQUE STEER....RIIIIIGHT.....

Ever drive a Northstar Cadillac? Zip for torque steer. Read my assessment of the new V8 GXP GP? There's a trace of it, but hardly enough to cause an accident. There are many guys on clubgp.com putting out over 350hp who don't seem to complain too much about torque steer. Some of you sound a little too much like a broken record...

Unbelievable thread... I can't believe it's still going.

Quick review...

Performance RWD > Performance FWD ...... PERIOD.
Always has been, always will be. Laws of physics don't change.

Monte SS with 300+hp is aimed towards performance... without RWD.
Therefore, I see is as being a bit crosse and futile, but that's JMO.

As I said before, pity the poor bastage that pounds on this car because it has 300hp and SS stickers on it. Then pity his wallet, especially after warranty is gone. And be VERY careful if you buy one used...

I hope nobody thinks that modding or repairing FWD units is easier than RWD units... or this thread will surpass "surge-demon" for the longest thread on the web.

These are my words, my predictions. Feel free to copy them, save them, and come back here in a few years and try to prove me wrong with them.

I don't mind this car. The way I see it, Chevy is doing the best with what they have right now, and it's certainly enough to put down the other HiPo FWD offerings from Japan. What's the rub when you look at it in that context?

Not to be picky but shouldn't that be FWD?

Perhaps you have never driven a car with FWD and 300 torque, I have, if you don't hold onto the wheel with a death grip it'll rip right out of your grasp.

I've driven cars with 800 torque and it didn't bother me a bit, but that car scared the heck out of me.

He smashed into another car at a light two weeks later BTW....

Exactly! There is no way a RWD MC would have been ready for next year, so maybe you all would have been happier if the MC stayed with the SC 3800 for a couple more years instead? Besides, this is a FAMILY performance car. GM will be wanting people who want a RWD performance coupe to be lining up for a certain model we all have a soft spot for...

Honestly, that's the same thing I said back on page 4 too.
I think Chevy will hit a niche market with this car, and they will probably sell a bunch on looks alone. I don't think it's a flop by any stretch, and the performance will definitely be a step above the base MC's, so I have no problem with it being an "SS" either.

But can anybody even think about arguing the performance benefits of an FWD over a RWD?!?!

This whole thing is just weird.
But as an advocate of technology and change, I'm not shooting it down - just think there's better ways to get there from here, that's all.

No argument whatsoever. But like we said, this is the best Chevy can do right now with what it has available.

Proud,

Simply put, there IS no performance benefit to FWD, at all. I agree with that entirely. However, I still like the fact it is because of the aforementioned snow and ice I deal with every winter. Put snows on this thing, and it will be a beast.

jsk,
Actually, as I said below, I HAVE driven a FWD car with over 300hp and 300 lb/ft of torque...3 actually. A '98 Eldorado Touring Coupe, an '05 GXP and a modded-to-hell '02 GTP...and all were more than manageable. Period.

Re: Has anyone stopped to think how quick the '06 Monte Carlo SS will be?!

This is the best GM can do with what they have at the moment, and I applaud the effort. I think this car is great, and I am still REALLY considering buying one. I shouldn't be because I bought a house last year, but this and a GTP 6 speed G6 are tearing at me

My fiance gave me the ok to go for it, telling me yesterday "you're bored with the GP, so go have some fun." I love my GP, but I keep looking at that evil black '06 SS on Chevy's site, then look at the interior of the G6 GTP with that 6 speed shifter popping out of the center console on pontiac.com. Decisions, decisions...

Man this thread is long. Let me just say, I really would like to see MC SS RWD! However, judging by the shear # of them I see on the street, I don't know if chevy will make the switch. It may not be necessary, I mean who knows what might be coming. I like the look of them, but this pulling has got to stop! My GF wants one really bad too, and she doesn't care about the fwd thing. If MT got a 14.3, I would say in the hands of the "right" driver it should "pull"... Huh! Huh!, some mid-high, 13 second E.T.'s easy! I do think GM needs to have a variety of different vehicles, FWD, RWD, etc. to compete. And most definately there should be a lot more V8 RWD offerings. Hopefuly as we've heard this stuff is coming. I do think the V8 should make this thing really haul some ***. And as to it being bad in the snow, I doubt it. All that weight on top of the wheels, with all that power should cut through the snow like butter, and plant the wheels firmly on the asphalt. I think that is why so many in my area are buying them up here. And the same goes for the Impala's, I see both cars pretty much all over the place.

Wow, 9 pages of bickering over a FWD V8 that more than likely will be saddled with a very stingient 'tranny nanny' cutting down performance, shift quality, and fun.

There's some serious withdrawl going on in here......
