i do agree GM should start discounting the thing to get sales moving a little bit, but i'm not worried about the future of the GTO one bit.

Something to think about....
Regardless of what Vette production was in 1953, the market today won't tolerate a turd of a car for long.
Too many different brands, too many different models to choose from. A manufacturer can't afford to let a car sit on a lot for too long if it's not selling.
I personally have not seen a GTO on the road yet, but I will say that if I were in the market for a new car, that would be at the top of my list most likely. I don't like the fact that many dealerships charge a premium for new cars, so I probably wouldn't purchase a 1st year car anyway. From what I've seen of it, it's an impressive looking car. Certainly not a turd or failure.
I would agree that dealerships are the most likely culprit for a slow sales start. That combined with the changes that are widely expected for next year will generate very little enthusiasm I think. I'd say the same thing is happening with the 2004 vette, since a new one is coming that will be much better in 2005, sales of the 2004 models can't be doing that well without discounts.

Once the 05's start rolling out, I have a feeling you're gonna see prices on the '04's drop like crazy. Then I think they'll start selling rather quick.
The GTO imo is one the sweetest cars on the market right now , but I still wouldnt pay even $1 over sticker for any new car . GTO's seem to be plentiful around here as Ive seen quite few on the road . A combination of pontiacs greedy dealer network and a little bit of misdirection in advertising I think is the main reason the GTO might seem to be getting off to a slow start . The reason I say advertising is because all of pontiacs TV adds >>that Ive seen << only seem to portray that the car is fast and thats basically it . The commercials are cool as hell , but their not really doing anything in the way getting new people in a showroom who may have never considered a Pontiac . Pontiac should aggresively be trying to appeal to the people that are shopping any of the mercedes coupes , G35 ect. The GTO will give any of them a run for their money as a total package . Car and Driver or Motor Trend , dont remember which one ...gave Pontiac the best advertising it coulda got with that 2 for 1 Mercedes comparo .
Impulse Blue = sex ....daaaamn

I was at the detroit auto show in 2003 where they showed the GTO for the first time. It was also the one where they showed the concept for the 2005 mustang. You couldn't get near the mustang, it was surrounded by huge crowds all day. I walked over to see the gto, and there were maybe 3 or 4 people there. The reason (in my opinion) is that it looked so dull. It looked like a blend of grand prix and cavalier. A boring blend at that.
Thanks for checking out my story guys. I do believe that GM messed up with the GTO. I don't want to say they rushed getting it over here, but I do believe they let a lot of the loyalists down when it comes to the new Goat.
Yes, it's a fabulous driving machine. I've had the chance to drive the Impulse Blue GTO (automatic) before writing the story and I must say, it is a very impressive automobile. It's just too bland and boring for todays day and age.
When bringing a car name back from the dead, it has GOT to stand out in a crowd. I think that's where GM messed up.
Funny thing today. I was driving in Rochester Hills, MI (those from around the area will know where it is) and I spotted a silver G6 approaching me in the other lane, I thought "GTO.." it came closer..nope G6. The front end treatment of the G6 brings the GTO more inline with the new Pontiac styling.

EXCUSES!!! The car had mark ups at some dealerships because it was expected to be a hot selling car. How long do you think these dealerships are going to hold onto cars trying to sell them as a mark up? Its supply and demand and there was NEVER a demand for the GTO. I know I ordered my CTSV in early January and like many of us we were all on the net daily getting updates on our orders. Go look at the C6 frenzy on the Vette board.
Yes its the same argument, because its the truth. ALOT of people think its a bland looking car and think its overpriced. If I had $33k to spend, a new Cobra would have been in my driveway, and they are selling more than GTO's and they are getting a whole new car next year. There is no dobt that the GTO is a total sales failure.
