I disagree the GTO is a fine ride. I think a lot of people are missing the point. It is not a striped down racer like the mustang is / camaro was. This is getting so old same debate... Same engine as th camaro/TA/corvetter yet people complain about HP, huh ?

Not a failure.

I would rather have it in the Pontiac lineup than not. It is a stop-gap until the Zeta car arrives; the 2005 changes should quell some of the detractors. Not a home run, but not a failure.

Well, we all know the reasons. Price too high, doesn't look right, boring, not from the U.S., etc. Next year should be better, and in a few years it should really be good. I think if this car was a Chevrolet Chevelle SS and looked like that HR454SS with a price at around $30-$32,000, they wouldn't be able to keep them on the lots.

Also, just the fact that it would be a Chevrolet would move them. People will always look at Chevy as the more performance focused division over Pontiac just because of its history and popularity, and that's where most people look to buy their GM musclecars, sportscar, and whatever else you can think of. The 5th Gen is sounding better and better everyday. (and it is needed!)

Give the 2004 a $2000 rebate or 0% for 48 and they will sell.

The 2005 needs the more agressive look of the SEMA Autocross GTO, Ram Ait hood, chrome 18"s optional, and DON'T raise the price. The LS2 should also help

I think the GTO is the best bang for the buck out there.
Give me another car that has the power of the GTO, quality of the GTO and handling of the GTO for about the price of the GTO? And thats now, wait till next year. If I had 35k to spend, I would be getting a GTO in a heart beat.

The G35 comes pretty close. It looks good, handles and brakes better, but is about half second slower in teh quarter mile. The styling and cool LED tail lights coupled with options like Brembos and 18 inch wheels make the G35 reallly appealing.

The GTO is cool in its own rights though. I have yet to see one on the street though. I've seen numerous Chrsler 300s and Magnums though which were just released not that long ago. I've also seen a few CTS-V's around town. I find it strange that I have seen these cars, yet not one GTO yet.

On the way to Myrtle Beach last weekend I saw about 8 of them outside a Pontiac dealer including one with some fancy checkerd flag type vinyl graphics. The dealer here in Raleigh has one. I think its pretty apparent some kind of incentive is needed to help get the cars moving.

Something's gotta give soon on the 2004 models... when the 2005's come out, unless there is a significant price increase, no one is going to pony up for a 2004 without substantial incentives.

Knowing this, Pontiac should have played the rebate game with GTO not too long after the launch...

I don't know about the GTO's handling as in sharpness. The ride quality is supposed to be good, but in straight out tight cornering ability, I don't think it's an F-body.

I too, have not seen a GTO on the road and I have only saw one at a cruise night. Also one was at a car show, but the sponsoring dealer was trying to sell it.

Overall I've seen a handful on the road now... just saw a Black one today.

Have also seen a Purple one, a red one, a few silver ones, a barbadoes blue one, an impluse blue one, and a yellow one...

Come to think of it... that is quite a few...
I've seen all the colors on the road, anyway.

IMO the GTO is not a failure. I think why it's selling so slow is for numerous reasons.

1. Dealer "Market adjustment" (this screwed it the most)
2. It's no secret next year it will have a 400hp 6 liter in it.
3. Dual exhaust next year
4. Hood scoops next year

Also the concept car looked much cooler with the 18" wheels.

The biggest dealbreaker is almost certainly the dealers...They're, for the most part, COMPLETELY unwilling to deal on the car. Whether they're moving or not. Even the few who sell at MSRP refuse to take rebates and such on them.

that's funny. i recall reading somewhere that in it's first year of production the Corvette barely broke 3000 sales. what a failure that car is huh...

i do agree GM should start discounting the thing to get sales moving a little bit, but i'm not worried about the future of the GTO one bit.
