About the only way they would not have been bashed for paying for travel, is if they had walked............... with no shoes................. uphill................. both ways................. in a blazing snowstorm.

Then, the politicians would have bashed them for being so stupid to walk in a snowstorm............ so you are obviously too stupid to run an auto manufacturer.

In other words, they were not going to win, no matter what they did.
Exactly! Thank You.

Exactly. It was too good an opportunity for some showboating by a few senators. "Let the record show that no one is willing to sell their plane as it sits and fly back to Detroit commercially", give me a F-ing break.

Why would you assume they're not going to change how things work? They've been working on changing how things work for a while now (new UAW contracts, for example). There's more that still needs to change, but you'd be a fool to think they're just going to continue as is.

I do know what you mean, and it's flawed logic. If he spends 6 hours travelling on one particular day, that's irrelevant, as long as his average productivity remains.

For those of you crying about security: California's governor flies around on public coach flights. I remember flying into Burbank with Gray Davis sitting two seats behind me. Nobody knows who the CEOs of the Big 3 are; they're not in danger. And it might be good for them to get out of their ivory towers and talk to the public a bit.

And for those of you crying about CEO time: bull****. A CEO sets policy, determines strategic direction, makes top-level financial decisions. He does not turn a wrench, crunch detailed spreadsheets, or do any extremely time-consuming work. He has a retinue of helpers and assistants. He does not *have* to be insanely busy or overworked, unless he wants to be.

You sir are clearly not related or know anyone who is a CEO. You are working your *** off 24/7, it's hard to find time for family.

QFT. It was some air time for politicians, who travel around in huge motorcades and private jets...

F-ing A baby.

I am all about accountability and payment on par.

Someone earlier knocked Bill Ford for not being able to turn it around... at least he KNEW he was not the right guy for the job and didn't ride the wave onto the sand and exit stage right. He also had not received a penny in compensation for his services - before or since Mulally was hired. Give a guy props for putting his money where his mouth is. He did it because he loves CARS, the business, etc. Other's should demonstrate their loyalty to their company and their business in such fashion.

Well apparently the one CEO finds time since he flies home to Seattle every weekend.

What if they bought regular plane tickets?

Then you'd have another spin - GM executives "putting on a show of piety" traveling to Washington via commercial airline while paid for jet and pilot collects dust on the runway.

This jet thing is much ado about nothing.

Its sickening to see the congress people who are running our country straight to hell and never ending debt talk down to someone because their business needs help and-or wasn't ran properly.

I bet Wagner just wanted to yell out "Well, I cant just go print up more money when WE RUN OUT!!! When our money runs out we have to ask for help or close up!"

It's the politicians that are hosing everyone, and somehow everyone seems to have shifted that anger over being hosed, onto the Big 3...Perception IS a huge problem, and it IS exactly why I've said many times, there are people in our gov't with the help of their friends in the press, that have been doing the people of this country a great disservice for a very long time...It's absolutely criminal IMHO!
