I'm actually more conservative than liberal with the majority of my political and economic views; just not in terms of the world economy. I think conservative views on a world economy are unfortunately and unrealistically self-centered and paranoid.

I'm sure there's plenty else different between me and your 23 year old son, FWIW.

I don't watch the news - I get the majority of my headlines from a mixture of news.google.com and BBC.

Most of the media worldwide is just as slanted and corrupt as the media in the US. I get my news from several sources, making the assumption that its all slanted to get me to think in one direction, then formulate and make an intelligent assement of what is reality and what is fantasy.

If you had merely relied on the BBC for news of Hurricane Katrina, you'd have deduced that everyone in New Orleans is black and poor.

Remember, I'm from California. That means I'm a pot smoking hippie tree hugger.

The BBC is the most anti-american, liberal, twisted "news" source in the free world.....hell, even Tony Blair was shocked at the level of anti-american views expressed after Katrina hit.

Personally, I hit about a dozen or more web based news sites a day....I like to get more views than just a few.

I would say it's a mix.

And remember, no one man (even the president) can do ANYTHING without approval of the House and Senate. Too many people are quick to forget that...

BINGO!

Everyone is quick to blame the white house for everything when in fact its Congress that makes the laws. At least someone around here stayed awake in their US Government class.

If my son was a left-wing hippy I'd have to deprogram him.

Re: GM talks dirty about Toyota

My dad wrote a reply he wanted me to post for him:

After 35 years working for the General, have observed a media bias
If GM or ford recall product, US newspapers scream it from the front page headlines.
If foreign car companies have a recall of small number but significantly higher percentage of sales, new is buried on page K33.
Also Euro luxury cars are having big quality problems.
The numbers are much ado about little. If Toyota has 121 problems per 100 and GM has 142 problems per hundred, on average every customer, regardless, will have 1 or 2 issues. If I'm on vacation, hundreds or thousands of miles away, I would prefer GM's vast dealer network and parts availability, for that extremely unlikely problem

So match that with flag waving, right wing biased, gov't *** kissing US media, and you can form an opinion that is right down the middle

One good thing about the BBC and other foreign news is that they give you an outsiders view. Most US media is concerned with only one thing, ratings! They don't want to make the federal Gov't mad because then the FCC might not renew their licence in time. They don't want to tick off the public with reality, because then people will call them liberal and they might loose ratings, and ratings = money.
