GM Paradox

The Corolla is the best selling car in the free World. If GM built a car that looked exactly the same (a replica) and stuck a GM badge (Chevrolet/Pontiac/etc.) on it, would it sell at the same pace as the Toyota Corolla?
Discuss.

No, because people still don't trust the GM brand to delivery long term reliability which is very important to people buying those sorts of cars.

Fuel mileage is too and public perception is that GM's econo cars don't sip fuel as lightly as Toyota's.

Didn't they try something like this before with the Prism / 'Rolla?

I seem to recall a truckload of consumer complaints against the Prism and very few for the Corolla when they were the identical car

I think they'd do better if they brought the C2 over from Mexico ad re-badged it as the Geo Metro.

They have it now, only its called a Vibe.
Vibe has a lower resale and lower quality ranking then the Matrix.

i helped some family members cross shop for a smaller car during 07. I hate to say it but the corollas interior(seating) is hands down better than the cobalt/G5. Its not overly soft but makes the cobalts seats feel like bricks. Isnt the corolla rated at more mpg also? We arent in a hp war but currently a mpg at economical price war. I think the cobalt is a nice car but the seat comfort is worse than the sunfires and cavs ive been in.

Yep. I know someone who has about 300K miles on one of these. But the transaction and resale prices were lower than the Corolla.

There's probably not too many people buying a Corolla for the looks.
