Thumbs down *Confirmation* - Spun a bearing!

Thanks to everyone who helped me out. Tore the motor down from the top to the bottom looking for the problem, and it was in fact a spun connecting rod bearing. Now I must figure out the next step.

I *hope* the Crank can be ground and still be useable, as well as the Connecting rod, not sure how much heat damage there is. Same thing with the block, I'm hoping that "little scuff" can be bored out.

LT4 Hotcam kit is definitely going back in. I have a friend in Ohio that is bored, and wants some heads to port, so I'm going to send the heads & intake up to him to get ported (After I get the heads checked out, piston may have been slapping one.

If the crank is shot, and I need a bore, then that means new pistons as well, I might consider just going w/ a 383 stroker as well. I need to do some research though, see where I can get a cheap rotating assembly from. By cheap I mean ~$1K. Like previously stated, this is my daily driver, but I RACE the mustangs

All boils down to how bad the Machine Shop says the damage is. One thing I need to find out about a 383, is I was talking to a couple people (Ford guys mind you), they said that it uses a 400 crank I believe, and that I will need to get a new flywheel and starter. I don't think that is correct, but then again I don't know Chevy's either.

If I can find some CHEAP USED Headers, shorty's or long, then I will most likely put those on too. I don't see the point in repairing these POS stock manifold studs. Be easier to work with the spark plugs etc. too.

Here's the original video of the problem:

Anyways, enough of my babble, here's the damage:

Here's the cap for the Conn Rod:

Here's the Piston and Rod:

Here's the Cylinder Wall:

To those with tech pages feel free to use the video/images for whatever you might need them for

Nope. Plenty of one piece seal stroker cranks that can use the same flywheel and starter. Scat makes a strong piece for about $250.00. No way I ever build a 350 when that crank is available.

Bad luck on my part. See sig

I'm guessing running too low on oil.

Can someone answer me, whta happens if you continue to run it w/ a spun bearing? Rod, and Main...

Most likely seizure. The parts will eventually get hot enough to fuse to each other.

Whelp, My Camshaft is pretty much ****ed too. Need a new one of those! Good excuse for an LT4 Hotcam? :bowNot that I really want to spend money, but that kit is a good deal. LT4 Hotcam kit $475 - comes with the LT4 Camshaft, 1.6 Aluminum Roller Rockers Arms, LT4 Valve Springs, Valve Caps, Valve Keys, and Shims. Specs on the cam are duration at .050" I: 218 E:228 Lift I:.525" E:.525" 112 lobe seperation.

I have 2 ****ed up Lifters too, that were riding on those cam lobes. I haven't gone over the other lifters in detail yet. I assume you replace lifters in a set eh? Based on what these 2 look like, might be best idea to replace all of them? I don't want to spend all kinds of money, but I don't want to do things the wrong way either.

I found that Excessive Motorsports has a cast 383 crank and forged 6" rods for a total of 575. Add in a Summit forged rebuild kit for 540 and you got a 1100 stroker! Thats what im doing with a good cam and ported heads. Should be nice considering I have only spent 450$ so far. 3500 for the car and 1500 for the stroker and heads/cam. I love being able to work on my own car.

Hell yeah man, being able to work on your own car is the ****!

I appreciate that advice, however I will NEVER NEVER EVER NEVER! buy ANYTHING from Excessive Motorsports. Have you seen their reputation? I'm surprised they're still in business...

I was about to say the same thing about Excessive. In the words of vpreatr - Don't walk, run away form Excessive!

Good luck on the rebuild.

What is the deal with Excessive? I really like their prices on the rods and crank. Anyone know where I can get those parts for that price? I have never heard of bad dealings with Excessive. Someone have an example?
