G8 Sneak Peak!
Worst offender.
There were quite a few people, not just on this site, who were writing Pontiac's Zeta obituary and I can REALLY feel for Scott. Knowing that a particular product was coming, knowing how (if not exactly where) it was going to be made, and knowing that it was going to share the same structure with another car in the pipeline, but having "knowledgeable" people assert otherwise is pretty frustrating. The only way to avoid being drawn in is to know when to walk away from a thread and let someone else "win" the debate when in reality they are as wrong as 2 left shoes on a one legged man with a right foot.
It wasn't a very good peak, though.
Charlie, let me be the 1st to say this. If I know your taste in cars, and having seen and spent some time with the Commodore, I suspect you may soon be intrested in trading in the CTS.
I had my pee-pee slapped over posting too much about GTO's "potential" future, so I'll simply say that Holden will have a Monaro replacement, and leave it at that....
Well... that and.....if you think the G8 cropped up on the radar screen fairly quickly.......
It's cheaper to import a standardized car over one that has alot of variations.
That said, there's to be at least 2 G8s imported. A "mild" Calais-like version, and a wilder SS-like version. The version in the video is obvious.
I believed both versions were going to be V8, but now I'm not so sure. I'm begining to hear $25K starting from people who should know better, so I'm wondering if the "mild" version will be a V6.
GM is actively working to combine Pontiac & Buick dealers, and stand alone Pontiac dealers will likely be as common as Studebaker dealers by the time the decade's out.
That said, Pontiac is moving traditional Grand Prix buyers (fleet and value hunters) into the G6. Chevrolet will be doing the same thing in a couple of years moving Impala buyers into the Malibu. The standard G8 will be the new "Bonneville" while the G8 that will be shown at Chicago will be aimed at the former GP GXP market.

well there will be...
and you know for what its worth they were not to far off on the car. Basic styling and all that good stuff. When I first saw the picture I didnt think it had a chance but now after seeing the G8. Looks like it has some family traits. Not that it will look like this but good guess..

That's all fine and great for the enthusiast buyer.... have Pontiac be all 'cool cars' and no bread & butter...
But when you have 4-5 models, and all are kicking out a volume of 10-15,000 units each, there's not much of a 'division' left.
Don't forget, there are a lot of Pontiac dealers out there (I can think of several in my small to mid sized market area) that are stand alone Pontiac dealers.
These places will not survive without volume vehicles, and as Scott has reminded us on several occasions, GM is obligated legally to supply their dealership franchises with a reasonable spread of vehicles to sell and support the franchises.

Nearly shed a tear with that! I just wish they would call it a Bonneville but hey, I won't look a gift-horse in the mouth!
I can't wait to actually DRIVE that thing.... and I'm goint to have to eat crow for diffrent reasons. My better-half talked me out of a Chrysler 300 SRT-8 this past fall because she said "You'll just find something you want more in a couple of years". Guess she's pretty sharp after all

I know GM and Pontiac have something up their sleeves, but it better not be THIS, which would be the equivalent of a dryer sheet.
I've been finding pics of the new Malibu on the web, and after seeing this, I am very VERY excited for GM's future.

Chevrolet El Camino.
GM-NA fought against the new gen Holden Ute because they felt the Colorado would suffice there, and Holden finally got the greenlight. The US dropped truck tarrifs with Australia as part of a new trade agreement. Mooney is all for exporting it (no mystery there) & Lutz is heavily in favor of using it as a new El Camino, and as he said it's barely more than putting on new badges (which Holden has in abundance since they sell their RWD cars as Chevys in the middle east).
Was.

Why do you say that? We've been talking about Holden shipping Commodores to Pontiac for the better part of a year.
Still think Camaro's going to be the only Zeta based GM coupe rolling down the assembly line in 2 years?

Anyway, in two years Camaro will have just started rolling down the assembly line. In 2.5 years the Impala and Camaro convertible will start going down that assembly line. After that, perhaps 2 larger sedans - one for Buick, maybe one Caddy, will be going down that assembly line.
So yes, in two years Camaro will be the only Zeta coupe rolling down that assembly line - perhaps even the only Zeta period going down the line in that time frame.
