That price includes the $1,700 gas-guzzler charge and the $685 destination fee on the base automatic-equipped model. The six-speed manual will set you back an additional $695 (just do it) and the sunroof can be yours for another $900
lol

So this car which runs about 13.0 @ 108 and is roughly 5-series sized, will run you $41,590 + tax with a 6-speed manual and sunroof and at 13/20 will continue to cost you at the pump, especially if gas prices don't stay low forever.

Seems like an awfully expensive car to own... especially for a Pontiac.

I agree it's not budget-conscious owners car...but I don't think it's pretending to be. What cars does it compare with in terms of size/weight/power, and how do they stack up in terms of price and fuel economy?

I'd like to see how it stacks up against a Charger SRT8.

The Charger SRT8 has 10 more horsepower, down 1 highway mpg (19 vs 20), is 100 pounds heavier, and cost scant $20 more.

I look forward to a car mag comparison test between those 2 as much as I can't wait for the Mustang-Camaro-Challenger tests. Should be good.

You do realize that this is not your mainstream G8, this is the performance version of it?

It's the same reason why someone buys an M3 (instead of 335) or M5 today and pays through the roof.

Your analysis is really strained. Do you really think anyone considering this car cares about MPG? Have you ever experienced a G8? It is a fantastic car inside and out. Definitely worth the money for the GXP model.

No that will be the "firehawk" and god only knows how much it will cost but if this thing is adding $900 for a fricking sunroof a supercharger will surely push it up another $10,000

Uh, so what the hell is the difference between a G8 GT, Camaro SS and the G8 GXP that the GXP is worth $8K+ more?

G8 GT -> G8 GXP
You get an engine with more power.
Stiffer suspension.
GXP embroidered seats.
Better brakes.
You can get a manual trans for $700 (which you cant even do on the GT)
Some styling differences.

Again, in comparison to the BMW M5, the car is extremely cheap. It also doesnt quite have the toys the M5 has. Or the complexity (good and bad).

But $40k for a Pontiac sedan... And I thought my GTP was expensive in its day...

Not quite 8k more...

39995 - 1700 Gas Guzzler = 38295

38295 - 32840 (GT MSRP w/ destination) = $5455

So the question is why is it $5455 more expensive.

My guess is it will have the Sport Package ($600) and Luxury Package ($1250).

That makes it a $3605 difference.

For the different engine, transmission, wheels, and exhaust, that might be pretty close.

If you price an SS Camaro with lots of options, I am sure you can get to that price. The only options maybe stick/auto and color.

A guy here at work has one, it's probably the fastest stock car I've ever been in.

(the only thing else that would compete would be a C5 Z06)

It also costs twice as much.
You need to see more cars

When I drove a lot of the G8 GTs here they were $29,995 including sunroof. The GXP with sunroof and manual trans is $41,590. The Camaro with the same motor and transmission is around $32,000.

Not comparing with the M5, I'm comparing it with something that has a lot of the same parts.
