The valve covers are interesting in that they are "fitted" over the rockers.

Also the exhaust manifold is a little odd, looks like a port in each primary. What are those for?

Exhaust manifold has test ports for EGT probes, I would imagine. Those will not be there on production models.

The valve covers have me most intrigued. Those are either for DI fuel injectors, or maybe a 3 valve configuration?

Time will tell, but I'm excited!

I am leaning towards injectors.

The gen 5 has direct injection, but the intake manifolds (note each cylinder's runner looks like it's really twin runners) has me thinking it's more to it.

Probably more likely you see one for each side and they are tapered.

Re: First Look at the Gen V Small Block

Might have some sort of variable intake manifold.

I agree. I count 8 "humps", and the LS series runners taper down to the port sive. The wide side feeds the oppossing port.

Those bumps on the valve covers seem to be shaped like a rocker arm. 3 valve heads?

Re: First Look at the Gen V Small Block

correct me if I'm wrong, I only see one picture and that "Intake" looks more like a shroud than an actual intake???

Re: First Look at the Gen V Small Block

Aren't the "bumps" on the valve covers just the coil packs?

No, did you actually look at the picture? There are bumps in the valve cover between the coils

Yes, I did. Perhaps its my bad eyesight or my cruddy monitor, but I don't see any "bumps".

Your monitor must be horrible or we're missing something.

What it looks like to me is the valve cover is flat against the head except where it has to go over the valves. That means while the coil packs are sitting on top of the valve covers, they are not sitting above the rockers mounted on the valve covers. They are sitting between them mounted on the valve covers not much higher than the top of the heads.

I kept staring at the thing before reading the responses. Im glad other people saw the same thing because I was not sure that was what I was looking at. Ive never seen valve covers like that.
