Thumbs up A few tidbits from another "insider"....

trapin, as he logs in on the Pro-Touring board, works in GM design (as I take it) and he had this to say about future GM product design...(I hope he doesn't mind me spreading the word)

Nobody killed Zeta. It's being re-evaluated.

If GM's past designs didn't inspire you...your in for a rude awakening. Now that the Lutz regime is here, that's all going to change. Our Designers have been given full range to do what they do best and in the coming years you are going to be seeing some if the most spectacular designs coming out of Warren, Michigan in decades. Just look at the Solstice, you gotta give it up to that car...it's going to be the most attractive roadster in world when it debuts. Saturn Sky will be even better...they are shining examples of the new design direction here at GM.

Lutz is pulling no punches, he and Welburn have that place firing on all 12 cylinders. Believe me when I say this...it's the dawn of a new era at GM. And make no mistake...Lutz, Cowger, Welburn and a host of others understand completely the importantence and the undying legacy of one of America's most beloved automotive icons (Camaro).

Here's one more little tid bit......Ed Welburn (Head of Design Center) drives a yellow and black Pro-Touring '69 Camaro to work almost every day. How you like THEM apples?

I gotta stop right there.

Seems like more and more signs point towards a Retro '69 like 5th Gen Camaro.

I have mixed feelings about that. But I am happy that at least we can look forward to a new Camaro fairly soon after too long of a wait since the last of the 4th gens came off the assembly line.

"I have no knowledge of a new Camaro being designed.

However, I do advise that you pay extremely close attention to The North American International Auto Show in January. It's going to be a great event.

.......you never know what surprises might pop up. "

sounds like the same thing we heard from a certain little green man not to long ago. maybe that's the "official" GM response right now.

It needs to be September already. I know Guy pointed it out as the month to start hearing things.

Well, lets look at this logically shall we?

Now, he says he has no knowledge of a new Camaro "being designed".

Yet there is a certain "design study" set to appear at this years NAIAS?

What conclusions can you draw from that?

Theoretically speaking ...............

If someone wanted a concept to be ready 4 months from now, the design of that concept would naturally need to be "locked in".

If the release of the production version of such a car were further out, you could naturally assume the tweaking would continue on that car.

And something about that tells me the 5th gen will be as retro as the day is long

I'm clinging to the "heritage, not retro" comment handed down from My Favorite Martian...

This will be the biggest arguement about the "concept"...how much "Heritage" can you inject without being Retro?!?

I suspect half will argue Heritage and half will argue Retro...OBVIOUSLY, it will have to be recognizable as a Camaro form 50 yards, so it'll HAVE to borrow cues that we all recognize......but if it's a good looking car.....WTF really cares?!?

Re: A few tidbits form another "insider"....

I think that's the million dollar question...what is the line? I agree...if it looks good, awesome. But if its as retro as the Mustang, I admit I'll be pretty dissapointed I waited 6 years for a car to rip itself off, and look silly because the Mustang did it 3 years prior...

Didn't Branden or someone say "Retro is like ****...you can't define it, but you know it when you see it"??? I always thought that was a great definition! BTW Doug, are you planning a BG Summit? Are you even going? I hope so...we need to corner the Martian again.

And I plan on wearing my Z28 t-shirt you gave me 2 years ago in honor of the event

I remember you mentioning that in a prior post. Keep me posted!! I think the best thing of the gathering in '03 was the Summit, so I'd love to get together with you guys again.

Once the decision was made to actually "develop" the car for production, of course there could be some tweaking of an existing design to make it production feasible.... hence the term "design study".....
