Cavalier based Chevelle rumor????

I do not mean a Chevy verison of the 2004-style GTO.

While I agree that is also a possibility, someone else did already post that it was a Cavalier-replacement called "Chevelle" and that they had "inside" information to such. Not that I'm saying they're more reliable than you... its just that looking at the angles of both vehicles, the "red-clay-model" to me looks smaller and shorter (wheelbase) than the "current" GTO/Monaro; thus making it more likely to be "Cavalierish."

The only 'facts' I can offer are those dealing with the 2005 Delta car being built at Lordstown, and even those are 'facts' that I get through my friends and contacts from Lordstown Assembly... I have not laid my own eyes on this equipment.
I could be totally off base in my prediction... though I do feel things sort of "fall into place" nicely in my scenario
The idea of a small coupe (ala RSX) is an intriguing one, but I also question the usage of Chevelle, which I associate with a larger car. I could picture Chevette or Nova as more appropriate, but I'm sure those have more of a negative connotation with the public--certainly not as stirring as Chevelle. Obviously GM is clamouring to use Chevelle somewhere, but this just does not seem like the right application.
And if the car is to appeal to the tuner crowd, I'm sure a fresh start and new name would be the best way to go. How about simply calling it the Z24?

In a conversation about the GTO a pontiac press rep pretty much noted that releasing the make-a-wish picture was a huge mistake in the media departemt...ie why they took the photo down...Both him and another trusted GM source have admitted to me it is is the future "small Chevrolet" and probaly would not be called Cavalier. When I brought up it being called "Chevelle" I was told it wasn't true and if it was it would be a horrible mistake. So will the Chevelle name be used on the Cavalier replacement? though not 100% sure I am very inclined to say no. But the red car is confirmed the future "small chevrolet" be seperate sources.

I have a better suggestion for the "small Chevrolet" anyway....

However, even if GM does "bring-back" the "Chevelle" as a FWD Cavalier replacement, the idea of a possible supercharged "SS" version intrigues me.
Why?
Because it says two things. First that performance isn't dead at Chevrolet. (Who though it was.) Secondly, it says Chevy is going after the younger tuner crowd. To me these are all positive moves that will eventually lead to the 5th gen Camaro becoming a reality.

Let's see what parts are in the pipeline for such a car? 220 hp blown Ecotec. Six speed manual transaxle. Delta platform upgraded with larger Epsilon brakes and 5 bolt wheel pattern, (as on the upcoming Ion Redline). 17 or 18" wheels. Delta based AWD.
Now.....I don't know about anyone else.....but to me, this sounds like a pretty cool car. It sounds like a car that could put the hurt on an RSX
. AND, FROM CHEVROLET TOO!!
I think, that I wouldn't mind seeing such a car, with the name Chevelle.
