Cavalier based Chevelle rumor????
Cavalier based Chevelle rumor????
I've run across this rumor more than once.....so here goes.
The rumors are that Chevelle will come back as a sporty FWD coupe based on the Cavalier. Or possibly replace the two door Cavalier. Or be a stylish coupe based on the G6 concept Epsilon platform.
Supposedly it would have a high output, high displacement V6.
Anyone have anything to add????

Actually, I think a sporty, stylish, fast FWD coupe that can compete with cars like the Acura RSX and others wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing for Chevy. And frankly, if it carries the Chevelle name (since we'll never see a RWD V8 Chevelle again, anyway), is something that I don't have a major problem with.
Someone mentioned that the next Cavalier (like the Malibu) would be sedan only, so it's plausible that a different name could be attached to a coupe ala Monte Carlo to the Lumina, then Impala.
Then again (no news, just something to consider), if I'm wrong in my speculation of Chevrolet using the Solstice as a Camaro (they are intrested in a version of that chassis), it would seem a coupe version of that chassis would be the direct competitor to a Cavalier based coupe with the same engines at the same prices.

I think GM is trying to get away from misplaced names such as putting Chevelle on a FWD V6. (where's the Doh smilie?!) And IF GM is reading, DON'T do it. Sometimes you gotta wonder if they'll still do stupid things like that though. The misuse of the SS name on everything makes you think.
Interesting thread.
I agree with Z284, that it would be nice to see an 'import fighter' so to speak.
At the same time, although I'm not as strongly against the use of the Chevelle name, It would probably be in GM's best interest to give it a fresh name.

If the Chevy Delta car has seperate names for the coupe and sedan, which I don't really think is a horrible idea, I doubt they'd use Chevelle on it.
A small, entry level Chevy, regardless of FWD or not, has nothing to do with the name Chevelle... If they dig up an old name for this type of car, it'd more likely be Nova... but I think this Delta car will get an all new name, it just makes more sence in this market.

If they're going to put it on a small fwd car, call it the Chevette, not the Chevelle.

Right? Because I mean... if it's RWD and from the past, it's a sacred name. I think... Hmmm.
