The nose from the front of the doors forward looks good/aggressive. Everything from that point back looks rental carish.

I do prefer the look of the '04s, they seem to have more aggression in their stance, even though they were more upright.

Props to Ford for bringing a new one out though.

Well, there is a Chevy Zeta coupe. Whether it will be called Camaro or not is unknown... even by GM.

You guys should see a few of the trim packages to come for the new pony . As it is its a good looking car But I saw a shelby trim package , white with blue stripes , ground effects and 17s . OMG , it was bad to the bone! It was one mean looking car .
For those whgo dont like it , maybe your just not used to it . There are a few cars I hated when they first came out and once they grew on me I loved them . But styling has and will always be a subjective subject determined bye ones taste .

To me, it's just that is is so bland, and seems to blend in with everything else. I think the '04s stuck out more.

The special editions are what will be good looking.

I want to know how the Mustang can be "stale." My perception of that word means dated, old, and starting to go out of style. Its a brand new design for pete's sake, I haven't even seen one in person yet. Generally I consider a car stale when it has been out for a few years, like a Ford Crown Vic, a Porche Boxter, a Toyota Camry, etc.

Why don't you all just say you don't like it? Cause that is what the real issue is.

Actually, it's a 40 year old design...

Stale...... Thats one of the risks of using retro styling, yes it looks cool when a car is first unveiled. But by the time the car makes production the familar looks of something old is new again makes it just luke warm in most cases. The SSR is kind of like that, we first saw it back in 2000. In between its been in lots of car shows, 100s of magazines, all kinds of different toys were made after it, and after many delays it finally gets to dealers lots in 2004. All that exposure makes it seem like the SSR has been out for almost 5 years now. Some would say the same about the Mustang, except it looks like its been around 40 years.

A mustang is a mustang and thats all there is too it. I have no kind words for it. It's a Ford. I'd stab myself before giving a kind word to one. If you dont have a new designe then what the hell is there...sure the 4th gen camaro took the headlight theme from a 3rd gen but it wasnt grafted from a car 40 years before. People buy stangs cuz they cant afford camaros or handle the power...why else would a car with 260hp outsell a camaroz28 with 310 (underrated, hell my 95 has 275 stock) and even worse and SS with 335+. Ford people are followers, they see one guy drive a car so they gotta have the same thing. Fbody guys know what they want and know how bad its gonna roll on the rustang in the next lane. I hate mustangs thats that....my 0.02 worth.

Your car has not hit 13's yet and you are talking about smoking a pony ? that new 05 would leave your car in its dust!
Im not trying to be a jerk but that was a narrow minded thing to say about the Mustang . Rolling on a mach1 wouldnt be done bye a sub 14 second car either . Not all ponies are slow . Im a pontiac man but I respect anything in the next lane with the performance that the new mustang carries . For the price its a unbeatable deal .
And the reason the Mustang outsold the f-bod is because of marketing . The v-6 version of the mustang made all the money and where bought alot bye women . from what I have been told thats the market ford was aiming for on the V6. Either way , they did sell well so they where doing something right . Not to mention the Supercharged corba's that can hit 11's for a fairly low amount of money . There are a few mustangs that benchmark performance .

I don't know why everyone here is getting so caught up in exterior dimensions. As long as the new 5th gen is approaching 200" that's fine with me.

Remember the LT1 T/A's? Those things were 197" nearly matching the overall length of the largest F-bodies from '79-'81. With todays more efficient packaging of front-end components and advanced technology, we can have a vehicle that's spacious and has presence without the excessive front and rear overhangs of yesteryear.

Most cars of today are getting bigger everytime a new one comes out anyway. Look at the so-called popular imports, the Camry, Accord and the Maxima. They keep getting longer, wider and taller everytime a new generation is released. I rather not see a return to the excessive downsizing frenzy GM embarked upon back in the mid '80's. Micro-sized 187" long Eldorado's and 195" long Fleetwoods is not something I want to see again. A 5th gen that's only 180" long is too short. It should be longer than a Mustang, but not much. I'd say no more than about 190" long.

If you want talk about stale cars, look no further than most GM product of the last few years. At least Ford "significantly" redesigned the SN95 platform back in '99. What'd we get? We get a minor restyling of the hood and front grill areas. Even the profit making Silverado got a hack-job the last time it was refreshed. An angular grill and front clip which doesn't really match the rest of the rounded body design.

I'm hoping, in fact I'm praying, that GM does better in the future.

I see where your coming from for the most part . But I cant complaing about the styling of my TA . Its a gorgeous car . The front end and hood redesighn that was given to the 98+ was gorgeous . IMO , I dont think there are many cars that belong in the same class as a 98+ram air looks wise .

You have got to be kidding me! The Chevy Tahoe is only 198.8 inches long.

Do you REALLY think that Chevy needs a Tahoe sized Camaro.

Robb4964,

I agree. IMO, Pontiac has always done a better job of refreshening their F-body variants through the years. That's why it's unfortunate that there'll be no Firebird version of the new 5th gen.

The '98 restyle definitely put "muscle" back into the rather svelte looking '93-'97 'birds. Maybe a little overdone with all those extra scoops and air ducts on the WS6 models, but a significant upgrade over the earlier models nonetheless.

The '91-'92 "restyle" Pontiac did for the 3rd gen Firebird was incredible. I remember when those cars first came out. That sleek batwing style front clip, smaller headlights, upturned side GFX, spoiler and rear bumper made that car look fantastic again.

The '79-'81 Firebird's are the similar story. I've read that the '79 refreshening was actually done in "secret" without official knowledge until the last minute. When GM brass finally saw the new look, they liked it so much they approved it for production.

TYPO! As long as the Camaro is NOT 200" long that's okay with me. If you read further down my original message, you would see the 190" length comment further below.

A Camaro with a 198" overall length wouldn't be all that bad. We had them in '78 through '81. However, as long as the overall height is 50-51" and not 72"+ like a Chevy Tahoe.
