Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.
Re: Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.
Read every post... geez what a crowd!
Safe to say we have the whole gamut covered in this thread now.
Let's be honest, we have seen clips and spy-shots and leaked images on the web for nearly a year now. Heck, I sat in an 05 Mustang in APRIL of this year at the 40th Anniv. show. To my eyes, it is indeed getting to be a common sight, and less of a heart-stopper when I see one on the road. Again, it's been a year (to the eye).
But have you DRIVEN one? OMG, BIG difference. My heartbeat was up 20% during my whole drive. Mundane things like playing the clutch at a stoplight had my smiling. EVERYBODY walking on the street was gawking and staring. Comments shouted at me as I went by - it all kept me smiling from ear to ear the whole time. In a car like this, who wouldn't want attention, and boy does this car get it for you on the road. I bet 90% or more of the American public has yet to see their first one, so to them, they have a year to go before it starts to sublime.
Last Point - not to be a hound, but there's one point nobody has made yet...
AFTERMARKET.
We have yet to see any cars on the road with wheels, spoilers, side skirts, custom grills, custom headlamps, graphics, etc. Just wait until the public at large has a chance to personalize these cars - they will be different as night and day, and that alone will have us looking at new and different imagery.
Z284ever - I see your point clearly, and have thought the same myself, but I can assure you after seat time and open discussion with total strangers - this car is nowhere near stale. Guys like you and I are just so into cars and have seen it so long already, it's moved out of the "shock zone" and nestled into the "comfort zone" where we don't get alarmed at the image anymore.

I have a question for our M*stang guys. Will the 05 have a side door molding?! I don't think I've seen any pictures of one with them yet. What's to protect the sides from idiots and such?!

When I saw the concept last year I was pretty blown away, (especially the silver coupe).
Then this year when the production car was revealed at the various shows, it lost alittle of it's edge. It seemed bigger, less agressive, not quite as nicely proportioned as the concept...I guess that's to be expected. It still looked pretty decent though, with it's lowered stance (non-production) and 18" wheels.
But the ones I see on the street seem to leave me cold. They seem so big and ungainly, compared to, oh say, an '04 Cobra or Mach 1 or even a GT with the Bullitt wheels. They sit so high too, and I don't care much for the Deluxe wheels. Cars like Mustang/Camaro/Firebird are very wheel oriented, if you don't get that relationship right.....you blow the whole look.

I cant get over the front end. The car sits pretty high for a sports car, and the front grill is big and makes it look more like a small cross over then a sports car. The PIAA/Hella grill lights dont help.

just got back from dinner with the wife at the outback.Took the wifes sonic blue GT,she got a parking space right up front and before we could get out a throng of people waiting for tables crowded by the car.Aged from mid fifties to early 20's.Young guys asked questions about performance and the older crowd asked about ride and quality. We had to excuse ourselves just to get inside and get on the table list. One lady wanted my wife to take her and her husband for a ride!!!Like I said before, this car appeals to many people and to say its stale is being closed minded.Lets see in a few years how the styling holds up,till then,Ford has one BIG hit on its hands!!

Personally, I prefer the production version over the concept (saw it in 2003 at an NMRA race).
Al doesn't like the new Mustang. What a shock.

I didn't give the car much credit until I saw one in person. Now? The dash is starting to grow on me (still my biggest complaint), and the front end, while having the aerodynamic efficiency of my new house, does look undoubtedly "muscle-car-ish." As I said in another post...
Its not enough to make me sell my Z28 for a GT, but the $19,995 V6 5 speed Premium model is the PERFECT car for my girlfriend...we have a budget of no higher than $400-$425/month for 4 years, with $0 down. The price point fits like a glove, and is a helluva lot more exciting than a Cobalt or G6, and fits between them in price.

The thread originator simply asked if anyone else felt the same way he did. He didn't say that no one should like the way it looked.
Re: Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.
to answer the original Question , yes i think it will date very quickly...
ford said that this basic new shape will remain till the end of this decade...
