Love them ...awsome cars . Look great and perform well . Only thing I dont like is that for some reason Ford decided not to put in a 6 speed " what the hell where they thinking " Wich kinda ruins the car for me .

If you want presence, go look at a '71-'76 Cadillac Eldorado or '71-'76 Buick Riviera. Those things got presence.lol!

I haven't seen the new Mustang yet, but I think Ford got the new design about 90% right. Remember, the Mustang always looked a little narrower and taller than a comparable F-body. Well.... except for maybe the hastily conceived 1st gens with that relatively high front cowl-section borrowed directly from the (Nova) X-car.

IMO, the only Mustangs that approach the level of sleekness that the F-body had would be the '69-'70 models and to some extent the '71-'73 versions. Guess what though? The '69-'70 Mustangs, which many GM F-body enthusiasts (including myself) find are their favorite Mustang models, were designed by an ex GM designer at the time.

The only change I would've made to the '05 Mustang would be to eliminate those separate triangular shaped 3/4 windows on the side. The design would be much cleaner with small windows attached to the door glass like the '69-'73 models. However, I'll have to reserve final judgment on the window style until I actually see one in person. Overall, the new '05 Mustang is definitely a homerun for Ford.

If and when GM finally does roll out a 5th gen Camaro, I hope it's not a tall and narrowish sports coupe. If I want a tall and narrowish sports coupe, I'll go buy a Mustang! Make the 5th gen sleek and low. 50-51" in total vehicle height maximum. A separate trunk would be okay as long as it doesn't make the car look like a notchback.

Quite a difference in size between a 3rd gen a C5. 3rd gens, were too big 15 years ago, they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big for a Camaro today.

BTW, the more I think about it....the more I think that the '05 Mustang would have looked fresher had they retained the SN95's size.

I happened to see an 05 GT parked next to a Blue 03/04 Cobra (couldn't tell which year to be sure) over the weekend.. and well, the 05 looked kinda plain.

I think I need to see an 05 in person, lowered smay 3/4 inch, with some nice 17" 5 spoke deep dish rims, some polished slash cut tips poking out the rear (without those ugly mufflers anywhere in sight).

If that's your opinion, how could you defend the current Monte Carlo? Unlike the bloated MC, the new Mustang is modern and "tidy" in proportions. I mean seriously, could anyone call either of the 2005 Mustang's overhangs "long" after looking at the Monte?

Your opinion, but as someone who seriously considered buying a C5 on a couple of occasions, I can honestly state that the styling of the C6 takes it off my shopping list.

Not really. I like the looks of it. At least there is an '05 Mustang to look at....

I don't think they are too big. I know they weren't 22 years ago when they were introduced, but maybe by the very later 80's/early 90's as you said. They are too big for a new Camaro today, later 3rds anyway. 185.5-187.5 or a little more is what I hope they go for.

No, it would have still looked too little and everyday sedan-like, they fixed that. (although the last ones do look better style-wise) Not only that, it helped them give the car more interior room for a change and a sportier stance. (with lousy looks)

I saw my first one on the road and it didnt do anything for me. That's just me, I wanted something fresh and forward-thinking, but the car is (going to be) a smashing success no matter what I think.

Kudos to Ford for sticking with their guns, knowing today's market and making a car that 95% of the population will love.

.
I never mentioned the Monte Carlo, but I agree, Mustang looks tidy next to it. The issue, of course, is that Monte Carlo is supposed to be a large/full sized coupe.... so comparing the two may not really be relevant.

I certainly don't want to see a Monte Carlo sized Camaro.

Not really sure where you get that 185.5 - 187.5" dimensions. My '89 IROC is 192.6" long. Just ONE INCH shorter than a 4th gen, which we've already established as being H_U_M_O_N_G_O_U_S.

The '85 front fascias probably added an inch or so on the '82-'84 cars..... but certainly not a half of a foot.

Re: Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.

You read that all wrong. I said I'd like to see the 5th Gen at 185.5"-187.5" or slightly more. Your IROC is 192.0", and I agree too big for a new Camaro. The 85's new bumpers and GFX added 4.2" to them.

82-84: 187.8"
85-90: 192.0"
91-92: 192.6"

LT1's: 193.2"
LS1's: 193.5"

Oh ok.

I could live with 185". The problem is that the Zeta coupe will be larger, maybe much larger.

I'd like closer to 187.5. I thought Zeta was not going to be used for the Camaro.
