Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.
Re: Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.
Yes I think it looks stale. The car does not have a presense, it actually seems to blend in more than the old car. At a local dealership, they have a row of 04' GT's and a few 05's at the end and the 04's seem to stick out more and look more aggressive. I was not a fan from the start so it never looked great to me.

Snorman,
I don't think anyone was comparing Camaro vs. M*stang here. I also don't think the 05 has excessive overhang, it's that big unecessary flat shelf part of the front bumper that looks weird. So the 05 is 188", personally I think that's a decent size as I'd like to see the 5th Gen Camaro be about 185.5"-187.5" in size. I'd probably be fine with 188"-190" also. BTW, you used the 3rd Gen's biggest overall for the comparison. Just dropping some knowledge.
82-84: 187.8"
85-90: 192.0"
91-92: 192.6"

Ihadn't seen them at the dealer yet.
Stale? I haven't seen one yet! Shoot, the local Ford dealer still didn't even have any until maybe last week.
I didn't know that they were in til when my brother said he saw a yellow one on the highway.

As you mentioned, total overhang is within 2 " for both cars. However, the '05 has much shorter front overhangs than the '04. Maybe I'll look it up later, but I bet the rear overhang on the '05 is bigger than the '04.
At any rate, and this is coming from someone who lauded the '05, it just doesn't do it for me anymore. The SN95 was old, but somehow (especially the 17" wheel cars), looked much sportier than the '05 to me.
Maybe it grew too big.

I see the new Ford Commercial and the Ford GT is in Front..and Im like WOW..then they got all the rest of the likeup..and then go to the Mustang...all the cars and SUV's in the middle LOOK THE SAME..the Freetyle, the 500 and so on...but the mustang is totally out of the Ford Mold of look alike grills..
and no its not stale...not at all.. I nearly S#!T my pants when I saw a V Series Caddy yesterday I was like WOW...

I'm also not comparing the cars. I'm just wondering how the '05 has "too much" or "excessive" overhang while it's significantly less than the last two generations of the F-body.

There is a V6 on the lot at Downs, I should park my Cobra next to it and take some measurements.
In person, these cars appear low-slung and menacing from the front. The rear seems somehow even more compact than the '99-'04 cars (which seemed more compact than the '94-'98 cars).
The door sill is high, and it gives the impression that the roofline is low. One thing I don't like is the side view mirrors. I think they could have styled something less intrusive and blocky.
Interesting to note is the engine height. With the hood open, the top of the intake/TB is approximately two inches above the top of the fender. It'll be interesting to see how SVT puts a blower on these. The latest rumors (including from a very good friend of mine who is a part/service director and spoke to one of the SVT engineers), is that the next Cobra will have a 3-valve 5.4 with a blower. I guess we'll see...but I wonder what kind of hood they'd use with that combo.

Stale??! NO!
Familiar? Yes!
In taking all the cues we've seen from Mustangs past, the new Mustang looks as familiar as an old friend with new clothes.
But that doesn't mean the new threads are stale.

stale???I don't think the car buying public thinks its stale. My wife and I can't get down the road a mile with either of our GT's and someone eithers gives us the thumbs up or hoots out the window"nice car".Some even ask us to show them the interior when we go to park. And its the car buying public that will keep this car going for a long time.I never realized how much people love mustangs. You guys should listen to guion,if the next camaro is not more stang- like ,it won't make it for long.
Re: Anyone think that the '05 Mustang is beginning to look alittle stale......already.
Probably, the reason for some to say that it's stale,it is because we had seen all of the spy photos and such of the car long before it hit the streets.

Z284,
When did you become such a fan of little cars?!
I don't think the size of the 05 has you feeling it's boring, I would think that would be caused by the style.
I've heard a number of people say they feel the C6 is too little. I can't say as I haven't seen one yet.
94Z28,
That's what happens when a new model of a popular car comes out. It does not mean in any way that the Camaro should be more M*stang-like, or be retro. It wouldn't be a Camaro. There's tons of people out there that are crazy for them too, they obviously have nothing new to be exicted about now.

Contrast the Mustang to the GTO, which appears to be an enlarged '95 Sunfire coupe with the nose from the a '96 Chrysler Sebring. It's clear that Ford has accomplished something with the Mustang. That said, by the time a new Camaro actually shows up, you Mustang might actually be "stale." Don't start to worry until at least 2009.
