6th gen Camaro wish list.

I posted this over at C&G. Thought maybe it might be an interesting topic here..........

Is it too early to talk about a 6th gen Camaro? Might as well, between CAFE and Zeta production decisions, I have a feeling the 5th gen may not be with us for very long.

I'll start.

The 6th gen (if there even is one), would need to be smaller and lighter than the 5th. It will need to be in order to help GM with their CAFE goals, plus a tidier package would be a good thing for a pony car.

It will also need to share it's architecture with a family of CAFE friendly vehicles, in order to make it economically viable. Alpha is the only architecture which comes to mind.

Although a next gen Camaro would need to be heavily invested in I4, turbo I4, and V6 powertrains, I sure hope a V8 is at least available.

Y'know, how do you make the car smaller while still maintaining mandated crash standards (which seems to adhere to the "space to live" princple without making the F6 look like the aborted love child between a new beetle and the current sentra?

I can see weight savings coming in using stronger but thinner steels and more aluminum, but to do that and shrink the car while maintaining that "Camaro shape" seems like it would be hard.

You know what, Holden are going to release a concept in a few weeks time apparently called the "coupe-60". Your guess is as good as mine as the chassis it is based on, but i'm thinking alpha....

Well, no one said it would be easy.

Alpha will be smaller than the 5th gen. And, at least some of the early styling proposals, are said to be very agressively styled.

For further RWD smaller coupe references, (which meet crash standards), I suppose we can also consider the BMW 1 and 3 and the Infiniti G37.

Don't underestimate the sequence of events which the Torana concept started. Personally, I think it was the genesis of what will ultimately become Alpha.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what the Coupe-60 is like - assuming that's the one Bob Lutz was recently talking about.

According to someone's "reliable source" coupe-60 will be a 2 door, 4 seat commodore. ie. the monaro we aren't going to get.

But it is interesting lutz was saying he loved it way before it was shown. Maybe Bob is trying to convince some people inside GM to let it be produced......

Speaking at the Detroit Motor Show, General Motors product boss Bob Lutz confirmed Holden would reveal a concept car to “knock everybody's socks off” at the show.
not much more is known. Holden normally leak badly, but they seem to be able to keep their concept details quite.

Can't we wait until the 5th gen is actually officially unveiled and being sold before starting the 6th gen talk? We really don't know with 100% certainty what the 5th gen will have. So how could someone really compare a purely hypothetical car with one that has not even gone on sale yet?

According to a discussion on LS1.com.au, it sounds like it will be very road race oriented.

Do you think that it will be more "Monaro" or more "Torana" oriented? Because frankly, I don't see that much of future for Zeta coupes, once Camaro runs it's course.
