That is one sweet looking ride from all angles. I like the front end much more than the rear and I love how the scoops are subtle and well integrated into the body. It seems as though the designers pulled their inspirations for this one from the older Holden HSV GTS (click through the flash set up to get to the pictures).

(pssst....two MAF meters flowing into the same tube? Interesting thought - surely there's a point to that....other than just looks. Surely.)

And those are hoodscoops I can live with, very tastefully integrated. That whole car is tastefully done, I like it

Now, if you were a hack, you could compensate by doing some funky stuff with the fuel/spark tables.
But then again, this is GM, and they can afford (and want to...) do this right. So that means that they wanted to avoid the issue of MAF accuracy for some reason... like maybe a whole bunch more airflow than would be expected out of an LS6.
What they're doing is taking the readings from both and summing them and THEN changing the tables to get an accurate reading.
I don't know if Harlan was involved in this car, but it sure looks like the same solution he had mentioned and was considering for his car... back when it only ran 9's.
Re: 500hp GTO picutres
So LS1/LS6 MAFs are good for 450-ish RWHP? Ok. Why? ID sizing? That's an easy fix - the aftermarket is all about larger MAF meters for stupid HP numbers - well beyond 500 flywheel. I'm sure GM could do it in-house, too.
If they need them to get the look they want (ie...the picture) - fine. I have no issues with that. But there is no mechanical need for 2 MAF meters at 500 HP (or anywhere near it).
BTW....did you ever own an AMC Pacer?

For the resolution required to conform with emissions requirements and finite engine control at large throttle openings the LS1/LS6 MAF's WERE NOT good for much over 450 rwhp. That's the whole point...
Duh.

The LS2 and LS6 DO NOT use the same MAF - they put the flow straightener back on for a reason.
"Hey guys, let's blow a million or so on putting MAF screen back on 'cause we haven't spent enough money this week."

LOL. My my my....here we go again.
Double duh. My whole point (obviously not spelled out in simplistic enough terms for you) was that if GM wanted to make a single MAF meter that would flow enough air to support the power quoted, they could easily do it.
Der.
Bzzzt. Hardly. Then again, they could probably use some help, after all, don't you work in the industry?
LOL. Such witty statements. I'm hardly an expert in MAF meters (flow, electronics, or otherwise). Fortunately for me, I wasn't pretending to be. Regardless, one does not need to be an expert discuss a subject....one doesn't have to be an expert to post on here at all. We know this - you post all the time.
What were you pretending to be again?
Cool. Who said their were the same? Perhaps you have a reading comprehension problem? Please go re-read my previous post if you are confused. Thanks.
Was that your idea?
I say again - 2 MAF meters are for looks. Fine.
LOL...had to go look that one up (too much acid in the early 80's you know).

Wow Boobie. Now you're going to tell GM Powertrain how to do their job.
Fact of the matter is you don't know JACK **** about the subject - but yet want to say it was only for appearance. Like I said... running your mouth through the quarter mile with your brain in neutral.

Nope, but I do own a Kramer Pacer Imperial, hence the name.
Re: 500hp GTO picutres
I'm kinda torn on the car. I like it and then I dont... I'd have to see more pics.
But ah, it looks like the subject of the thread has changed direction, whos got the popcorn?

Re: 500hp GTO picutres
That doesn't look like the LS2 intake one bit...
I hate how you can't post images within posts on this site...

I'll put the good word in for ya if they need an underqualified hack with more mouth than brains.

Shut up and learn something for once.

Unfortunately, not at Powertrain.
I'll take "you" for a $1000, Alex.

You ain't an expert at anything Boobie
although your jaw muscles are getting a lot of work, the frontal lobe connected to them is in need of some maintenance.
Shut up and learn something for once.
I'm not looking for expertise from ya Boobie
since that would be like trying to wring blood from a turnip.
King of the shred guitars in the 80's. Nearly put both Gibson AND Fender under.

You have a wonderful day. I'm going to cry "uncle" and move along.
Re: 500hp GTO picutres
A car shouldn't need tons of throw-on stuff to make it look good. This car has so much tack-on additions it makes a person wonder how dull the original must have looked. Although I would agree that, in order for the GTO to be exciting, it might help to have an after-market hood, hoodscoops, new wheels, a drastic body kit with wheel bulges, ground effects, tail-lamp blackouts, a spoiler, side vents, front bumper vents, fog-lights, a huge front air dam and a bright orange paint-job that screams "LOOK AT ME!".
