As for you guys that think a 300hp 4.8L is alot faster than a 255hp 5.7L, look at the swelling curb weight and the lack of torque. The late 90's models will have weighed about 500 lbs less than this new design if they add 250 lbs like they did for the last redo. The new engine will probably be rated for 300ftlbs at 4000 rpm. The 5.7L made 330ftlbs at 2800.
Do you guys remember that the 305hp mustang was slower than the 285hp camaro? It made less torque.
Duh!

It was the "305" horse (yeah, right) Camaro that cleanly whipped the 305 horse Cobra.

Re: 2007 Tahoe, First Pictures
Getting back to the truck, am I the only one who notices that the front end looks like it was designed separate from the rest of the vehicle? Maybe it's just the pictures and an illusion, but covering up the hood & the grille and looking at the body, then covering the body and looking at just the front end looks like 2 different design studios were forced together.
I really like the interior. I looks very comfortable & familiar. However, it is by no means a "WOW interior like Ford's F series was when it 1st came out.
It's not that GM's interior is bad or anything. I think it looks good. But J. Mays' forte seems to be interiors, and he seems to have pushed his stylists more than GM's interior stylists were pushed. It's almost as if GM focused so much on improving the quality of their truck interior that they forgot about being innovative in design.
Much like the Buick LeCrosse, the Tahoe looks really good inside & out, but the guys across the street have flashier offerings and is going to get all the press.
Maybe you need to see a few more angles? I mean, they are both big two-box SUVs, and they do both have 4 wheels and 4 doors, but... an Expedition with a Chevy nose?
Outside of the wheel arches, the Expedition has no body creases, character lines, or sheetmetal bends.
I see what he's talking about in that it resembles the Expedition in that the Tahoe (which used to have lines or creases, or both) now has relatively plain side metal... in effect, a Expedition with a Trailblazer front end.
I'm sure the effect is different in person, but in pictures with the nose hidden, it could be passed off as the next Expedition.
That would be nice.
Just remember, when that lease is up.......

welp............there will be one live-in-person at the Texas State Fair.....and another at the Anaheim show during public days........
...........perhaps -- once again -- you should wait and see it in person before passing judgement.
(as I recall, just about everyone on this board declared the HHR a flop prior to actually seeing one.............Impala also............)
but hey.......I'm prejudiced...........

Besides - in the full-size SUV arena, (and this is where your car-enthusiast bias is again clouding your judgment BTW), it's not flashy styling that matters most to these buyers. It's the overall functionality, value, quality and other aspects along those lines. I believe the new Tahoe's styling is perfectly on the mark for its target market. I also still maintain that anyone claiming it looks like a Ford is merely displaying their ignorance for all to see. Because such folk have no historical perspective on Chevy trucks, such as the previous models I already mentioned, nor the Cheyenne concept truck.

Well, so far I think I'm batting 1.000.... I said HHR would be a home run, and I said I thought Impala was quite nice (my only personal comment was I wasn't super crazy about the lower grille shape... kind of a "puckered smile" look, IMO) and both of those cars have been very well received.
The 06 Impala is the king of the "see it before you judge it" cars.... looks so much better in person than in pictures. The subtle character liones don't come through in 2 dimensions in print.
That said, I think the Tahoe looks excellent..... I honestly don't see a whole lot I would change. My biggest complaint (not really a complain, more of a comment, really) would be that the silhouette looks a bit too much like the outgong model, but then again, how much different can an SUV look from the side without getting goofy like the Armada?
I'll also agree with the 3rd row seating comments, though... fold flat would have been nice if it could have been done.

Ya know...with these kinds of naysayers......heaven forbid in January all Lutz hears are whiners and bitchers....the Camaro will be stillborn....

What deafening whine? And which affordable performance cars are people whining about?

Re: 2007 Tahoe, First Pictures
To BDnF, anything negative about anything GM is whining - thus the problem (from his perspective). Of course, being a car enthusiast, my clouded judgement is irrelavent, thus I digress.
Personally, I think the best thing about the new SUVs is the *reported* increase in gas mileage.

I think Lutz has a better appreciation for the unvarnished truth than you might give him credit for.

Wow, I'd say you have a very sensitive whine-o-meter. I like the GTO. I just wish it were truer to it's roots.
But at this point it doesn't matter what I think or you think. The GTO's future looks pretty dim.

Thats gonna be fun to run the **** of of the 4.8l in order to make speed. Kinda offsets the purpose of saving gas with less cubes unless you are sitting in city traffic. So is the 900 gonna be 250 more lbs than the 800? The C/K was 250lbs less than the 800. It just starts sounding shady if you add 500lbs and chop a liter off the motor and expect any increase real increase in performance. And drop the 4 speed allready damn. Its called obsolete.
I swear I though the LT1 was faster than the four cam. I know it wasn't alot faster but still. Can I get some LT1 props?
