A counter-example: The new Durango. They tried SOOO hard to make like a PT Cruiser with those nutty front fenders. Looks stupid as can be. Do you really think people are going to jump over from Chevy for that, just because it's "different"?
It's not a big deal if it has a window frame that looks like a Ford, never said it was. I just pointed out the fact that it's there. That's when all the "how dare you say that" started.

Being different and looking good are two different thing. I'm not saying GM should stick altezzas and scoops and frickin lazer beams on the Tahoe. You dont need to go wild and be radical to have something look great.

I will agree its safer to go with a mundane(sp?) design, but if you hit a design on the head people flock.

Like Chrome said, at least the chrome bar is disapearing.

It really goes back to this...

Yeah, GM can't go "wild" with the Tahoe or the Trucks. Why? They are a big part of their profit... When you go with "wild" styling like the 300, HHR, etc... You are taking a big CHANCE. On a vehicle like the HHR where it's kinda overlap trying something new - then if they don't take off no big deal. If they redesigned their Trucks *wild* and for some reason it DIDN'T hit - would spell certain disaster for GM. That's WHY they probably went safe. I like it - Chevy Trucks and SUV's for too long have had that damn Chrome bar across the front and they needed something different.
GM cannot afford to take a chance here. Who'd have thought the PT Cruiser and the CTS would be hits? In fact, Lutz said once that the CTS clinic'd worse than any other car in memory. So if you were in charge of GM... would you be willing to pull the trigger on making another Plymouth Prowler, Ford TBird, or Toyota Tundra V6? I doubt it. Chevy has done it right here. The new Tahoe is fresh, modern and mainstream, but not too far over the top.

If I were in charge of GM I'd stick an LS7 in a bathtub.

The thunderbird, prowler, pt cruiser, even the CTS. They were all, what I would consider, radical designs. Especially the redesign the caddies went through, which I love.

I'm not sure why you think I want it to be the next Aztec in the automotive design world. Like I've been trying to say, I wouldn't expect the designers to go all out (aka: radical), but I think there's enough talent at GM to improve on this design.

[QUOTE=JG/70Z]Pickups, SUV's, cars, use whatever example you want. When companies have vehicles going head to head, it takes something significant to shift the customers interest towards the competing vehicle, such as a bold redesign, which is the point I was trying to get across.
[QUOTE]

I don't mean to be picking on you...please don't take it that way.....but I don't necessarily agree with you on a mainstream product. Look at the top sellers year-to-year....and you'll see, for the most part, that they tend to be evolutionary..........

now......if it's a sports car.......or a segment definer.........(segment definer like PT Cruiser)......I'd agree.

There is a LOT riding on the 900 series trucks.....a LOT.

A good example:........(perhaps a bad example!) The Infinity FX........well......certainly 'different' ...but not flying off the shelves......

all I ask is that you look at the vehicle in person first......go see it at an autoshow....(not sure where you live..........but it will be at Texas State Fair and Anaheim in the next few weeks.....).........look it over.......get in and out of it......and then make your judgement.

I remember an old girlfriend........at first sight, I thought she was a stuck-up prude. See....I didn't get to know her first...........boy, was I WRONG!

IMO The Infinity FX is the ugliest car/suv on the road today, but it gets all kinds of praise from the auto press I do have to say the 45s V8 does sound good.

When looking at Nissan/Infiniti as a whole, their aggressive styling paid off. They went from in the red to the most profitable car maker. They rolled the dice styling wise and it paid off for them.

What are the hot selling SUV's?? Tahoe, Explorer, and so on.. To me, the one's that have the bold flashy styling are the ones that sell the least. From a business standpoint, why mess up Tahoe or any other GM SUV. Make the Caddy and GMC's more luxurious if you want, but not borderline repulsive like some offerings from other companies.

Interior looks good. Not impreesed with the front, looks like a widened version of that ugly new mini-van (can't think of the name). The squared rear section reminds me of the new Jeeps.
First impression though, maybe it'll grow on me.

Are you talking about the altima? Seems as if the buying public feels differently cause they sell quite nicely.

PT Cruisers had a great initial success too. I happen to think they are the very epitome of ugly however.

Okay I am not sure if Chrome is talking aobut nissan altimas or this britsh sports car. I was assuming the nissan version which has been a great seller since 2002. And I would put the aztek and quest above the pt cruiser on the ugly totem pole. And lastly to get back on track the tahoe looks fine, I think it will hold its own in sales in a market that is gonna be shrinking.
