No way, no how. The Mustang Cobra and c6 z06 are two completely different beasts. And as good as the Cobra is, it will take nothing short of a miracle for it to outperform or come close to the z06 in the handling and braking department. The only area were a Cobra might come close (if it is packing 550hp GT engine which is rumored to be underrated) is the acceleration deparment, and that'd be it.
It'll be tough for it to even match the base c6 in all-around performance let alone c6 z06.
If we are to see a c6 z06 competitor in the Mustang camp, it'll be a big-dollar, limited production, purpose-built car like the Cobra R.

I just think it's funny how these threads bring out the insiders who already know what future vehicles hold.
FYI...three months ago a friend of mine, who works for Ford and interacts with Ford and SVT engineers, told me the '07 would be a blown 5.4 liter, 3-valve (based on the now defunct next gen-L) making a "rated 450hp" with a solid axle. I thought he was crazy.
In two months, we'll find out if he was.

Check some Ford GT performace figures then compare to Chevy's claims for the 06 Z06 ( its all we got to go at the moment
) The new Z06 is already gonna give the GT one hell of a run for its money . I do not think the Z06 will see the GT's 212 mph though . At mid 11's@127mph chevy claims for the Z06 is faster than any 1/4 test Ive seen personally for the GT . Yeah yeah , I know the world doesnt evolve around the 1/4 mile ....its all I really care I really care about though
Without a doubt , the new Cobra will most likely be a very impressive car . But if you think Ford is gonna release a 550 hp cobra to play with $70-150K
factory hot rods and price it below $50K , some of ya need to put down the crack pipe

if they geared it differently, it might not accelerate quite as fast, but yea, it could hit 212

Re: 07' Cobra is suppose to take out the new Z06'!
If Ford wants to stick a 500hp engine in there, let them. SVT can try it all they want.
Some thoughts::
1)The first model year Z06 is 500lb lighter. In the next 2 years they might drop more weight, as well as upgrade to ceramic brakes (which werent used because of a $4000 increase in cost of the car). So that difference might be even more impressive.
2)We know how GM is about increasing HP numbers over the years now. With Vette it seems every model year (or two) it gains 10-20hp. No doubt in my mind by the time a 500hp Mustang comes out, the Z06 will be rated 520-530hp. Power advantage will be likely.
3)The LS2 was rated 400hp. I think dynos are starting to show the motor is really 420-430hp. That might mean that the LS7, in order to get that round 500hp number lost a few hp in there to make a better number (500hp as opposed to like 517hp... doesnt look or sound as good)
4)Technically if #2 were true, then they could put a low-rated LS7 into a 2007MY Camaro (Insert Special Edition Name here). Most likely it would not have as free-flowing an exhaust system and then a slightly de-tuned engine. A 500hp Camaro could easily be had, espicially if we start to see the LS7 in other cars (like one of the V series) next to a 530hp or 540hp Z06.
5)I wonder what the LS7 does under boost? I hope in the next year or year and a half the companies like Procharger and Vortech start putting together kits. I dont know how well it'll do with that really high CR though...

Re: 07' Cobra is suppose to take out the new Z06'!
The LS7 will always be the winner because it has more potential. If they put a detuned LS7 in a limited Camaro it would be COPO ZL1 (aluminum 427 that truely has around 500HP and similar TQ) all over again almost exactly, more than 40 years later. I've always been for doing this. It would obviously be expensive though, just as the originals were. What a great image and excitement it would create though.

It takes Ford 10 years to replace it's bread and butter Sedan Tuarus, Windstar replacement was half asses, Lincoln has only two cars that are getting old fast, The current Ranger has been around since 1993, but they can pump out the super cars
