Anyone see the article in the March issue of motor trend? The Shelby Mustang Cobra will be powered by the same engine that powers the Ford GT and is expected to have around 550 hp. According to the magazine Ford is aiming for the Z06. 0-60 in under 4 secs and high 11's.


This car(if motortrend is correct) is gonna be a BEAST and i dont expect to see a price tag under 50K.


Maybe this will push GM to bring the camaro back with 500+ hp

 

I bet it comes in around 500hp and thats not bad.Ford will prolly keep it under $45,000.Gonna trade in for that one if it comes...........chevy who??????

 

IF the car is made and IF it has 500-550 and IF Corvette Z06 doesnt increase in hp then I still dont think it would take out a new Z06. The new Z06 will make similar power NA with VASTLY less weight, better handling, and will have more of the 'bugs' worked out, with a good aftermarket already in place for every part.

Strong stangs could mean strong Camaros though, so best of luck to every RWD V8 American car anyone can produce, we are counting on their successes.

So 45k for the motor and 26k for the stang body? I thought it was supposed ly a 465hp detuned version in last weeks rumor?

 

So i've heard but i trust motortrend and in the article they talk about it like its a sure thing.

 

I thought that the word was that the Blue Devil was twin turbo and most recently is not likely to be produced.

 

Ford selling a Mustang w/ the GT's motor for $100k LESS than the GT?? Who would buy the GT then, and why would it be a halo car if the Z06 is faster than a GT, and the Cobra is supposed to be faster than the Z06?

 

so the z06 markets gonna go under before it starts?

 

If Ford makes this car, they will stick a "-R" at the end of the name and limit production to 250 or so cars.

Again, they will wind up in sealed-room collections and not bothering many 'vettes. (Which I think is a shame, anyway. A car should be driven and enjoyed.)

 

In short, don't believe everything you read.

I'm sure there are bound to be "insiders" and "experts" out there who will profess to already know what the next Cobra will be. And I'm pretty sure about 99% of them don't.

My opinion of the MT article...
1. It didn't state Ford was trying to "take out" the Z06 and Viper SRT-10. The language used was the Z06 and SRT-10 were "performance target(s)".
2. I have a hard time believing the GT engine, in its entirety, will be in the '07 Cobra. However, I think people are seizing on the suggested retail of that engine a bit too much when trying to decide how Ford will use it.
3. If it has that engine, I can't see Ford making it for less than 45k MSRP.

We'll know in about two months, and either the "insiders" and "experts" will be right, or they'll be wrong.

I don't think it'll ever happen and I agree with the others. If anything it would have an R and be really low production. It doesn't really make sense to make that car with the GT out there for alot more money. GM will never let this Z06 be touched by any M*stang.

Mecca, don't you think that sig is a little much? Not trying to tell you what to do but it's not quite appropriate and this isn't the lounge of all things.
