agreed. I might have done a little jig in my room, but no big production or anything. I know I would have a moment of silence if it was a COPO Camaro or a big block Vette.

but if it was a bunch of Mustang II's...does anyone really care?

The mustang plant had a basement fire a few days ago according to the guy I bought my sunfire from. He got sent home early and they had to close down for the day.

Yes...

These 150K-plus people would care for starters...

I know you can do searches too.

M-II's are recongized in the Mustang Club of America with their own classes and their own specialized judges (gold card too).
There are M-II's fetching $30k and more in today's collector auctions.

There are many clubs and organizations dedicated to them.

And if you ever had enough b***s to drive one with an open mind, you would likely see that the cars ride better than most luxury cars of the day, handled very well, and had a world-class suspension system. All they were short on was power, but what few cars weren't during those years?

And for those who are not old enough to remember when the Statue of Liberty was refinished, let me inform you that there were quite a few Mustang II's on the road and the strip that were nothing short of viscious - even against big-block cars. The little 135hp 302 was STILL a 302, and with proper cam, intake, and other support peices, it was easily converted into a 2700lb rocketsled in less than a weekend. All the newer goodies for the 5.0's apply to the old 302's too, so M-II's are still getting better today too.

That's WHO CARES.

wow, now I would never expect a 4th gen owner to sick up for a third gen or a late 2nd gen like you just did there for the Mustang II. Just further shows that Mustang owners are more close-nit then Fbody owners.

Sometimes I wonder if some here are truly car enthusiasts.
I just can't phathom, how someone could be happy at the possibility of some historically significant Mustangs going up in flames.

You'd think that we were talking about some Taliban laden pick ups or something.

As a CAMARO enthusiast I'm embarrassed. Maybe we need to work on more than just the "mullet" thing.

Thanks Charlie.
Somehow, I expected you to be the only one to put it that way.

Know what guys, there's a time and a place for everything. But it takes a little maturity and discretion to know when and where certain things are appropriate.

This is one of the key factors in personal success - knowing when to keep your mouth shut, and when to say appropriate things. Anybody remember Senator Trent Lott's comment about Strom Thurmond at his retirement... just one little one-liner all but finished Lott's career.

No, I'm not menstrual. No, I'm not a Camaro-hater. No, I'm not having a bad day.
I just don't think that losing valuable and classic collectibles to vandalism is a funny thing.
Imagine YOU putting $50-grand into restoring your ultra-rare Yenko Camaro, sent it to Bowling Green from California for an anniversary show, and are having it shipped back home, only to have it burned in the rail car while you are waiting for it to be unloaded. Would you be ready to make marshmallow jokes about it? How would you feel if I started cracking Corvair jokes about the situation... or maybe it should be Vega jokes - they were the ones with the aluminum blocks that burned so well, right? Worse yet, imagine twenty such collectibles... there's just nothing humorous about it.

I'll say this much...
It is VERY obvious to me who in this forum actually OWNS or CARES about a classic and collectible car, or has at least spent the time, money, sweat, and blood to restore a classic. Those folks aren't the ones taking pot-shots at a situation like this, because they KNOW what was lost.

Proud,

Over the time you've been here, I've agreed with you, I've disagreed with you, and I've respected you... but you are going waaaaaay overboard here.

It's not like anyone here is walking up to the owner(s) of the car(s) and pointing his finger in his face and laughing at him.

I'm sure the car(s) were insured, so the monetary loss will be minimal. Yes, the cars are probably gone, but you know what? That happens everyday, everywhere... maybe not in such a publicized, or dramatic fashion, but it happens.

I am 31 years old, and I respect the cars. My father-in-law has a car collection that consists of over 10 Corvettes (Many Bloomington Gold winners), 4 Camaros, a Chevelle, a Firebird, a Mustang, and a Challenger. I rarely talk about them, because 1) they are not mine, though I am very proud of them, and 2) I don't want to sound arrogant or anything to that fact, even though, again, they are not mine. I think one of the few times I even mentioned them was when one of the Bloomingotn Gold winning cars he restored was put on eBay by a 3rd party.

Now, I do NOT think it'd be funny if something happened to even ONE of the cars in the collection. Heck, I go out and look at the cars for no reason, and I've seen them a million times... my wife laughs at me.

About 2 weekends ago, we were cutting down 3 VERY VERY LARGE oaks trees, whose bases had started to rot to the point of it being a hazard and could fall on the building that all the cars are stored in. My wife's uncle came over with the chain saws, and he and my father-in-law began to cut down the HUGE trees (I'm talking EASILY 100+ ft high trees). They were on the edge of the tree line, and very close to the building where the cars are (within 15 feet).

After the 1st one was down, the second one didn't fall exactly where it was supposed to (and my wife's uncle has cut down hundreds of trees, so he knows what he is doing), now, that second tree actually hit the building, destroyed the gutter, and tore up some shingles on the roof... it could have been catastrophic if the tree had fallen just 1 foot more to the right... the roof would have likely caved in, smashing most, if not all of the cars, not to mention his shop with the lift and all his other equipment.

After it fell, and we were all VERY stunned and stared at each other in silence for a good 10 seconds, but then we all had a good LAUGH about it... took down the 3rd tree, and moved on.

So, I don't think anyone here is 'disrespecting' the car(s) or their owner(s), because of making tongue-in-cheek Mustang or Ford jokes... take a look at my first post (which happens to be the FIRST reponse in this thread... what was the first thing I said? "Glad no one was hurt"... because that is what REALLY matters...)

Oh dear god...

I've got to be politically correct towards cars now...

Aren't there more important things in life to get all worked up about???
