Oil temps still high with cooler..help

At Summit Point during the amercian iron race my oil temp started getting near 300 but my collant was still 210 or cooler.
I have a good size oil cooler mounted about 3 inches in front of the radiator. The radiator has two pull through fans which come on early.
Is it mounting?? do I need fan on the oil cooler??
Is that just normal??

If your temp sender is in the oil pan the readings will be high. 280 is not uncommon in the pan. I take my oil temps after the cooler and normally see 210-220, but sometimes as high as 240 on a hot humid day.

I believe your cooler is to far from your radiator for the radiator fans to be of any use. You need to get a separate cooler fan, move the cooler close to the radiator or duct the cooler.
The oil pan or inlet to the oil cooler is the correct place for the oil temp. reading, not the oil cooler outlet.

So on a formula would a way to duct be to cut out the pocket (where a fog light would go) on the front nostril and run a duct to the cooler??

Guys, what filter adapter are you running? I have a cooler, but I'm piecing things together myself and I want to make sure that the filter adapter I get will work on a LT1 also, especially regarding clearance issues, etc.
