More articles on driving technique?

I’m a freelance magazine writer, and I’m thinking of doing a series of articles on high-performance driving technique. I’ve noticed that most car magazines--even those devoted to sports and performance cars--don’t really run many stories about that.

What do you think? Would anyone be interested in articles on how to improve their driving skills?

If so, what kinds of things would you like to learn more about?

Well, yes.

Some books have been written about it, but they remain pretty generic. Specific driving techniques are somewhat variable dependent on the car characteristics. An article specific to moderate to big power, rear-wheel drive cars in the 3500lb range would be helpful to those in this website. Perhaps you could include sample track turns with different driving lines shown and the relative differences in times/speeds for a given F-Body. You could explain the advantages of different lines for different power and weight vehicles.

Overall it is a tough thing to write about. You really need to just do it and experience it. But it is worth a try.

Good luck.

Re: More articles on driving technique?

Would these articles be road course or autocross oriented? Techniques don't appear to be 100% transferrable between the two.

You should enter a Midwestern Council driver school and get some first hand experience. They run three W2W schools with a high speed a-x group included. They also run a school exclusively for high speed a-x. All this and only minutes away!.

The Drivers School that APEX is talking about will be held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, located just outside Beloit WI. Next years dates are as follows: 4/13/03, 6/21/03, & 9/13/03 There are wheel to wheel races following the next day (Sunday) on each of these events. The School covers W2W & AX.
