Are Subframe Connectors Worth the Money?

Like the title says, I'm wondering how valuable SFC's are. What are your experiences with them? Do they quiet the car down (rattles, etc.)? Do they improve handling? I'm trying to decide what suspension mods to do and I'm thinking of starting with SFC's...what do you think? Is it a good idea?

I highly suggest it as one of the first mods that you do to your car. It'll strengthen the weak frame of the car. Much improved handling manners. No more chassis flex... I believe that anyone on here would without a doubt recommend them

They sure aren't much money, in relation to many other parts, IMO yes.

I was also happy with my STB purchace, likewise not alot of dough.

Dr.M,
What STB do you recommend? I think I've read in the past that some 3-pt brace may eventually put enough pressure under the thin cowl area that it cracks the windshield...true?

I just bought a used Hotchkis STB, mostly I liked how it looked, otherwise I may have gotten a BMR unit.

I considered a 3 or 4 point also, as for breaking the windshield I think someone came up with a theory on that, I thought it was loose bolts or something? It may end up damaging the firewall before taking out the windshield.

Ultimately you need it most from keeping the shock towers from moving towards each other under action, I dont think the 3/4 point is all that neccessary. For those picky enough, get a 12 point cage with tube going from inside the car through the firewall, and onto the crossmember

So I think going the extra mile in this case isn't going to give much if any noticeable gain, especially for the $, others may have seperate opinions however. Remember sometimes more is not better, and if it is diminishing returns is a common law.

I assumed that the Hotchis STB would be a better one since it looks as if it would be easier to remove in a jiffy. However, like I previously stated, I'm absolutely ignorant concerning the Z28 and I'm trying to learn as much as possible for others out there that have done the deed... Thanks for your reply...

That is kind of a nice feature of the Hotchkis, the brakets stay on the shock tower and the bar itself comes off with 2 bolts, definately nice in that regard.

A weld in double diamond SFC and a 3-point STB will give you 60% of the chassis rigidity of a full frame at 10% of the cost. At least that's been my experience and I wouldn't recommended a full frame to anyone who was only looking for cost effective performance.
