What Wheels are These?

Could someone help me with these Parts identification:

1/ The Wheels:
They seem to have slots with round inserts in them?
Is this a racing technique or a bodge job?

The seem to be Steel Rims with Cast Iron Centres? or Steel Centres welded in?
Another bodge job?

The Caps? original (ish)?

Thank you.

Re: What Wheels are These?

Those are aftermarket wheels, not GM. Keystone was a popular supplier of wheels in those days. No one has modified (bodged) the slots - that's the original Keystone design. The inserts allowed the wheels to fit more than one bolt circle diameter, based on the eccentricity of the insert. Keystone is now part of Cragar, and they still make a wheel by that name. But not the same detail and construction methods..

It wasn't unusual for wheels of the period to be constructed with steel rims and a cast aluminum center section. The aluminum center section had steel lugs embedded in it that could be welded to the steel rim. I had a set of Cragars that were made that way on my 1966 Pontiac GTO:
